Where were you when Nebraska beat Miami to win the National Championship?

Great stuff

Wish I had went on more of these side quests when I was younger

My first lesson in the fact that pretty much anything can be done if you grease the wheels with enough money... I swear, everywhere we turned it was, "You can't do that, but for $X, we can look the other way". Not what this Midwestern boy was used to...

Forgot to add in there that we were eating at a Planet Sub in downtown Miami and saw a guy get stabbed outside the window right in front of us. Just a different world at the time.

I was recently RIF'd from active duty. Renting a basement in north Omaha (Florence). Watched the game at the Pipeline with friends. Then went back to where I was renting and turned around and went to 72nd and Dodge. All of us from the house went.

It was glorious!
Were you the guy in your red underwear with the visible pee spot?
Party on, my friend.

(who out there remembers what I'm talking about? Though given the situation, maybe it wasn't pee... 🤔)

I was 3 so I don't remember. My first memory of Nebraska football was the 97 game against Tennessee. My parents and about 15 family and friends piled into an RV to make the drive. I got an ear infection. I made my dad miss half the game because I had to puke. I vividly remember the rows of empty urinals in that shithole Orange Bowl bathroom

Nope, knot me.

I was Hella impressed with the folks who brought their gennys down there, then the dudes all climbing the street light poles all around the intersection. It was an amazing scene.

The police seemed pretty chill that night.

I also bought the SI commemorative package later that night.

I may ... or may not ... have drug home a few "hockey babes" from the Pipeline Tavern back in the day.

As ol Archie and Edith used to sing... those were the days....

I met the actual Bob Father and the entire 95 starting OL at the pipeline. Got autographs on Pipeline coasters somewhere. Ol Devaney had his brief case with him. Pulled out his own vodka and orange juice.

GBR

I was living down in Lincoln in the mid-80's and was dining with a friend (Mitch, who owned the liquor/wine store on something like 10th and South or A street - it's been a minute) atop the NBC tower and we were seated at the table next to the Bobfather. Introductions and handshakes, then back to our tables.

It was like 11:45 in the morning, and ol' Mitch looked over his menu at me and said, "It's his 4th or 5th one by now", and winked. I had to bite my tongue to keep from LOL'ing. The rumors were indeed true. #Legend

I was 15, watching at home. It was such a fun night with about 25 family and friends.

I celebrated later that night with multiple viewings of Skinemax.
Scrambled or real thing? We only could watch the scrambled skinemax and would celebrate everyone we made out a boob!

About an hour after after the game, I was in a squad car in the middle of "O" street, in front of O'rourke's. Taken to detox, had my lady friend get me out. Missed all the fun (except for crowd surfing in the bar, smashing real glass pitchers, and lighting ground bloom flowers inside as well). Then a week later I was fixing these.... 1000000566.jpg

Cops were still dickheads back then too huh?

I was told at detox that there was a general order out to leave people alone unless they were endangering others. As I came out of O'rourke's, a friend handed me a lit smoke ball. I threw it, and as soon as my follow through was complete there were cuffs on my wrists. All this while there was a MASSIVE smoke bomb going of in the intersection, lol. I guess I could have put someones eye out though.

Yeah I just turned 4.. I do remember 97 thankfully
I vaguely do but I mostly just remember this TV that my parents bought from Nebraska furniture mart. They had a deal where if Nebraska won the national championship you got the tv for free. But then they wouldn’t pay anyone back because they didn’t win the AP poll haha
