Where were you when Nebraska beat Miami to win the National Championship?

I was 9 years old and in my parents living room. My parents had other relatives over for the game.

I was born in June of 96. I got to watch us win in 97 although I obviously don't remember it.

I was 14, watched the game at my dad’s buddy’s house. I receiver him being negative the whole time saying that it was the same old shit. Then the first TD run came and the whole mood shifted. It was unreal!

I was in high school smoking camel lights and drinking whatever we could get our hands on. What an awesome time to be alive.

The single most joy I have ever received from Nebraska was when we beat Texas in 09 for about 30 seconds.
I almost had a stroke when they put time back on the clock. No lie I blacked out and saw stars I was so fucking pissed. that was the day I called for Texas to leave the Union. I've held firm on that calling ever since.

Watched it with my Dad and Brother which was fitting as we'd experienced the tough losses together. As happy as I was for the team, the state and all the fans, I think most everyone was happiest for TO.

I remember after the soul crushing 94 Orange Bowl loss, TO was the one guy that wasn't as rattled as I'd expect. You could tell he knew they'd turned the corner and were going to be dominant.

I was in the stadium watching it unfold live... It was awesome, and looking back, I can't help but feel like it was meant to be...

I bought tickets with 3 of my friends to go. A couple of weeks out, all 3 had something come up and weren't able to go, so they sold them to a guy on our dorm floor and 2 of his friends. I didn't really know them well, but we agreed to all make the trip together. They lived in Swimtown, so I drove up to meet them on December 30th.

Like a bunch of idiot college kids, we decided that we were going to drive straight through, taking shifts. We stopped at my aunt's house in Nashville to shower part way and then continued on to Miami. We hadn't thought to book a hotel or anything, so we were just hoping for the best. We roll into Miami on the 31st and stop at a Burger King. When we come out, the car wouldn't go into gear (transmission went out on it). One of the guys had just gotten a credit card that had tow service as a benefit, so we called for a tow. Guy shows up and tells us that he can only fit 2 in the cab of his truck and if the other 2 of us want to ride in the car, ducking down, we'll have to give him $50 because it's against the law. We pony up the cash and he drops us off at a rental car place and takes the car to some mechanic. None of us know that you have to be 25 to rent a car, so we get up there and the guy tells us that he can't rent to us because the 3 of them are 21 and I'm 19, but if we give him $100, he'll make it look like one of us is 25 so we can get the car. We pony up the cash and get the rental car. Still not giving any thought to where in the hell we're going to stay that night, we hit the town and experience all the craziness that Miami has to offer. Just after midnight, we decide we should probably try to find a hotel, not realizing that those are probably booked up since it's New Year's Eve. We drive around looking for a place and after about 15 "we're full idiots", we find some shithole to stay in.

We go to the game the next day, getting shit talked by all of the Miami fans. At halftime, they're all over us, and I'm just praying that we don't end up getting blown out. Then the 2nd half unfolds and we assert our ourselves and it was glorious. You could see on the faces of the Miami fans that they knew they were fucked and we were just dominating them. I don't think I've ever talked as much shit after a game as I did that day, but it was worth it!

Next day, we find out that the transmission is toast and it'll cost more to fix it than the car is worth. We call around to every airline and of course there's no tickets, so we decide to buy Greyhound Bus tickets... 42 hours on a Greyhound bus to get back to Omaha sucked, but it all ended up worth it to see that 1st National Championship in my lifetime!

I was still drinking in '95, so prolly on top of my wife.
