Omaha Road bad drivers

Seriously, the amount of retards on the road in Omaha is ridiculous.

I've only been here for a couple years and the amount of times I've been almost wrecked, merged into, ran off the road is in twice double digits.

People piss on Lincoln cause it's slow, but damn I never once had shit like this happen on the road there.

I travel a lot for work, and I don’t think it’s an ‘Omaha’ thing, though for it’s size Omaha is ahead of the curve.

It seems that once a city gets to a certain size, and has the right blend of imported a holes mixed with the local a holes, it gets dicey. Add the wonder that is the smart phone to the mix and it’s pretty goddamned dangerous.

I’m not advocating you fly to Charlotte or Atlanta just to have a different frame of reference, but in baseball terms compared to those two cites, Omaha is struggling to hit ‘AA’ level.

Exactly. Houston and LA have been the worst, but DC mag take the cake now. Dumbfuck city behind the wheel.

Denver is terrible as well

Since moving to the city after being in rural Nebraska my whole life, here are things Omaha drivers don’t do:
1. Wave. Fuck them.
2. Zipper merge. People have such a desire to be first, not last that it creates unnecessary backups.
3. Speed limits aren’t a thing and you are a big dumb dipshit if you ever question it.
4. Yellow/recently red lights are merely a suggestion.
6. Drive sober, per recent data reporting.
Omaha drivers are tame compared to most of the country . And our worst drivers don’t hold a candle to European drivers.

What I think I’ve learned ITT is we all think the city (or cities) we live in has the worst drivers in America. I thought Orlando was the worst when I lived there. Then I thought Tampa Bay was just as bad if not worse. Then after a number of years and a few short stints in a handful of cities I’ve come to the conclusion NYC and LA are by far the worst by a wide margin. And every other city sucks too, just to a noticeably lesser degree than NYC and LA.

And if we’re talking international… if there is a city with worse/more traffic and bad drivers than Mexico City, I hope I never end up in that hell hole. 2 of the top 5 worst days of my entire life were driving in Mexico City.

IMO, NYC isn't too bad. The cities I've thought were the worst are the ones that have a healthy mix of aggressive drivers and country bumpkins who think going 62 in a 60 is living dangerously. NYC screens out all that shit and it's all just psychos moving from point A to point B pretty efficiently given constraints on the size of roads

Albuquerque = fastest drivers I've ever encountered.

As an Omaha resident, I actually preferred that.

Population density is greater in Omaha than ALB, so tough to speed here overall.

Yeah man, no one in rural Nebraska drives drunk lmao

So, after I posted the above post, I decided to see what the internet had to say about traffic and/or bad drivers world wide… My worst experience ever was Mexico City. Second worst was probably NYC. Well, Mexico City is actually ranked 17th world wide in the amount of time (on average) it takes you to travel 6 miles anywhere within the “city limits”. Takes 30 minutes and 47 seconds (on average) to travel 6 with Mexico City. 🤪🔫

To put into perspective how true your statement is (about Omaha and most US cities) there are only 2 American (US) cities in the entire top 200 worst traffic cities world wide. NYC at 25 and Honolulu at 195. Philly comes in at 230. We actually have the best road systems and lowest traffic levels in the entire world. And it’s actually by a pretty wide margin when you consider we are the 3rd largest country population wise. It’s pretty astounding really.

Also, may I never end up in Baranquilla Columbia 😳 If it’s 17 spots worse than Mexico City it must be where bad people go when they die.

My sister has lived in and around NYC for 30 years, and they (New Yorkers) always try to downplay NYC traffic/drivers. Now I will say NYC has far less bad drivers than say Mexico City. Mostly cause traffic laws (other than speeding) are enforced in NYC. No traffic laws are enforced in Mexico City. Cops don’t even show up half the time when an accident is reported. But the amount of traffic and people in NYC just breeds ultra aggressive shitty drivers, and I think people who are in it kind of forget what the rest of the US is like. IMO

For my money, NYC is worst in the US by a wide margin. And international rankings agree. NYC is the only city ranked in the top 100 (25) internationally for worst traffic. Site uses the average time it takes to travel 6 miles…

I don't equate traffic with bad driving. I spent about a decade in the NYC metro both in and out of the city and if the drivers in it were truly bad it'd just be piled up cars on fire as far as the eye can see

I don’t necessarily equate it either, but the two tend to go hand in hand. The more people, the more traffic. The more traffic, the more people are inclined to take risks and/or display more aggressive cut throat tactics. And that leads to more people driving poorly. No, they’re not the same thing, (traffic and bad drivers) but they have a cause and effect influence on each other.
