Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread - (17-20)

Best advice I can give?
9U to 14U doesn't matter. Let him have fun and enjoy the ride as a Dad.

Wins, Stats and everything else means nothing.

In my opinion, the only way you can mess up as a dad is if he hates baseball and it’s because of you.

The cool thing for me is watching him fall in love with the process.

We need more parents like this!

Former freshmen head coach, who also works directly with most of the baseball organizations in Omaha, parents and coaches need to be reminded off that!

This is my least favorite time of the year job wise😂 i swear youth baseballllbrings out the worst in people.

Had plenty of teammates growing up playing travel ball who burned out in large part from hearing their dad yelling at them from the stands.

Thankfully my Dad was never like that. I don't recall too many Dad's of players I played with that were. Now, the Softball Dads (my sister played select softball), that was whole different situation. Those guys were constantly yelling at their girls.

Unfortunately my step son has no athletic ability at all and really no interest in sports. He did ask to play baseball in 7th grade (I think because he knew how much it meant to me). It sucked that my first instinct was to say that if you hadn't played before 7th grade, that your opportunity had passed. I ended up finding a recreational league for him. Of course, they ended up not having a coach, so I had to step in to coach. I told him on day 1, "If you ask me after a game, how I thought you did, I'm going to ask you if you want me to answer as Dad or as Coach. If you are asking me as Dad, I'm going to ask you if you had fun, and if you did, then that was great. If you're asking me as Coach, then I'm probably going to give you some constructive criticism". It's up to you".

He always responded that he was asking me as Dad. That team was full of horrible ball players that made the Bad News Bears look like World Series Champions, but I ended up trying to make it as fun as possible for them. Drove me crazy at times, but you have to find the fun in things... I remember one time the RF overthrew the 2B, and the runner went to 3rd, while the RF grabbed the ball and threw it over the 3B head, allowing the runner to score. I yelled, "Boys, it's too hot for a snowball fight". They all started laughing and thought it was the funniest thing in the world. At that point, all I could do was laugh with them.

Friend of mine is really involved with softball. He moved to Oklahoma about 10 years ago maybe more. Ive lost concept of time over 1 year. @PonyBoy probably knows him (O.J.). He said he couldn't believe how much more intense softball is there. He was probably exaggerating but he was talking about parents coming to blows over 8 u games.

I can't imagine the insanity.

There was a coach that fought someone in the Millard league over a 7U game. At least that’s the rumor.

Ha, if OJ says it's intense then it has to be intense.

I'll never forget the kid on my 13 yo select team striking out, hearing his dad yell from the stands, turning around at home plate, flips off his dad and yells "fuck you!"

That was an uncomfortable moment.

He wasn't a bad player but pretty sure he never played high school ball.

Being a prick all under the guise of “high expectations” so you can feed your own ego is kind of ridiculous. But it’s all too common.

Not sure what one is worse, the parent that is aggressive and yells at their kid or the parent that treats practice and games like a 2 hour daycare?

Some dudes are way too intense to be coaching.

Was at my nephews soccer game and the opposing coach was on the field during the game yelling at their kids that they better hustle it up or they were going to need to start looking for a new team 🤣. My nephew is ten and those kids looked even younger than him. Nephews team beat them something like 8-1.

Their other coach had been kicked out of the in-town baseball league last year because he was rotating his travel-ball kids in during games. Still had a bad team. My brother/nephews team beat them both times they played.

My brother also coaches his football team and it's wild listening to the crazy parents at the games. It's like dude your kid probably isn't even going to play high school ball so you might want to take it down a couple notches.
