This is why the rebuild - this is not a major rebuild like Baylor was -
I agree this isn't on the scale of Baylor, but I bet a lot of us will be surprised at the percentage of people in the 85 and on the roster when fall practice starts that weren't here when the Cockeye game ended last November.

Blah blah blah - put out your 13 or shut the fuck up…

Who did Benhart beat out at T on this roster? Who did Piper actually beat out at Guard?

Never thought I’d see someone so bent out of shape for having a different opinion. You really love our 4 win roster huh?
Nobody is bent out of shape but you.

Smothers
Torres
AJ Rollins
Hardy
V Jones
Buckley
Tagaloa
Gbayor
Malcolm
Pola Gates
Lynum
Morton
Emmet
Rahmir Johnson

Most of these players come from a position group that has plenty of numbers. We dont have enough offensive linemen as is yet alone enough to cut ones that were the best we had last year. It doesnt matter if the offensive line was bad, we dont have enough high quality experienced guys there to cut anyone that started for us last year. It also doesnt matter that you hated watching Benhart every week, I did too, but when you look logically at what we have coming back he is not going to get cut.

The other thing the staff must consider is cutting seniors doesnt solve the problem, just pushes it off till next year. The last I counted I believe the senior count was 13 which only leaves room for a very small class so you have to cut guys again next year. I dont love cutting guys that have given there all, sometimes you have to do it but if the kid comes and gives his best effort I don't think you want to make a habit of cutting those type of guys every year. If DR does come we need to be in a position to take a huge class with the guys he will bring in and we will need to cut more guys to achieve that. Its something we will probably have to do but I dont love it and I doubt MR will take a lot of pleasure in it either.

I don't see Hartzog being cut, whatsoever. He continuously had on a black jersey throughout Spring conditioning. I know his 'size' is a disadvantage, but he really wasn't exposed too terribly. I'll live with those deep, 50/50 balls Rutgers made on him.

I read in one of the many recaps across the internet this morning that Benhart's body looked reshaped, and it appears to have lost a lot of weight.

Agree so much with the second point. People often forget about roster management. You have to get fresh blood in, you have to give guys a chance to play some to develop, your roster has to be structured in such a way that recruits won't think they'll be on the bench 3 years if they come. There's no reason to use a junior or a senior as a backup if a freshman or sophomore is basically almost as capable. This means older guys who might be able to play 20 snaps a game but not start will be on the chopping block especially as this team will be slanted to developing for the future and will therefore be even more inclined to give young guys a chance.

With the gray area guys people agonize over, spring will sort out a lot. Guys will see where they stand in the PT pecking order and a number of these guys will go one their own.

Tony White today

***White dished out a lot of praise for Malcolm Hartzog, who is working at cornerback, safety, and nickel this spring. White said he could see immediately from watching last year’s film that Hartzog had the “it factor.” Along with his athleticism and play-making ability, White has loved Hartzog’s “attention to detail” on and off the field.

I guess someone else will benefit and pick up a solid player when djw cuts him.

I think some of these highly touted recruits that the former staff did get were then done dirty by the (lack thereof) conditioning and coaching. Benhart, Turner, and Nash immediately come to mind, especially Benhart and Nash with their incredible wrestling backgrounds. They looked way too slow and constipated for what they were coming out of high school.

That could very well be. Rhule has to stand up and make a point about what won't be tolerated.

I also read Nash has lost a lot of weight. Might be a lot of Ozempic prescriptions.

Most are great thoughts - I'd nitpick at MLB and RB. Cutting 2 out of each of those rooms (moreso cutting 2 from the same class in MLB) and leaving us with 5 and 4 seems foolish to me. You can count on at least 1 season ending injury in those rooms. With Henrich being apparently the slowest man on earth, I don't like getting rid of 2 guys in a class below them that are noted for their athleticism a bit more. Not leaving much margin. Similar to your thoughts on dropping an OL in my opinion.

The rest I could understand. I think DB's crossover to special teams so much and so well you won't see that many go there - which probably makes your point on Hartzog. With Hartzog - his size just is the complete opposite of what they seem to have identified as their style and preference in DBs. My point is more - it's probably a good thing that coming up with the 13 is so hard at this point because it means we are getting closer to a respectable roster.

I also would disagree on pushing the problem out 1 year being a bad thing. You can only flip so much in 1 year's time. And giving young guys from previous staff 1 year to develop rather than 4 year guys that are less prone to change would make more sense to me. You have to unwind so much more in the older guys than the young. In a normal year I'd be more prone to agree with you. And as I've said previously - obviously we aren't in the day to day - if someone is coming along and in line with the values of the staff, that's a hell of a lot more important than being a past contributor.

I promise you a "wrong guy" has been cut before. 1 - we'd live. 2 - I think I was pretty transparent that if someone is coming along well and thought of highly by our current staff then you can throw our thoughts right out the window.

Believe it or not I'd prefer to be wrong on guys. Just means they are showing what the staff needs to see. And I trust the hell out of Rhule.

FIU could probably use another Husker if I did cut Hartzog... :)

I think it was their first day of spring photo - they had a pic of Benhart working and he definitely looked different. Would be a great sign if so. Something needs to be DRASTICALLY different with him. He was too prized coming out to be as atrocious as he's been.

Nash said although he looks thinner he hasn't lost weight - his body fat % has gone down a lot, weight has stayed about the same
