Will Raiola play vs. USC?

Man who knows, I am not at all a Haarberg Local Hero guy but he's fresh and healthy and Raiola is battered and confused, I dunno. If the surprise factor works and he breaks off a few big straight line runs similar to his first few games last year and Holgorsen calls a smart simple game, it could be enough to win...

This is where I'm at. I've always found it a little weird that more coaches don't do this to throw off an opposing team...and get you #1 guy closer to being fully healthy. It's not like HH is completely incompetent (this year anyway) - and he'll definitely be hungry.

I'm one of those that laughs at the HH Homers. There's zero doubt Dylan is our #1.

Some will say, what kind of message does that send to the starter. That's where communication comes in. Of course if it fails miserably it will be criticized BIGLY.

I expect Raiola to play. I hope he is healthy and ready to get rid of the ball on time. I'd like to see more drop back game. I think it would help him regain timing.

HH isn't a long term solution, obviously, but there is a part of me that thinks a run heavy look against a softening USC defense may not be a bad thing.

Raiola has looked incomprehensibly bad the last several weeks. I place most of that blame on the OC and Rhule. Going into Indiana with a true frosh and a pass happy approach was just stupid. I believe they threw on 9 of the first 12 plays and 5 of the first 6. Then, they couldn't stick with the run game against OSU either. Maybe we need to force them to run the ball for a week.

raiola, battered and confused, still completes 20% more of his passes than HH ever did last year

I was surprised how sharp he looked against UCLAbia. Seemed more decisive with his throws that Raiola. And a couple well-placed throws that should have bene caught weren't.

I am solidly still in Dylan's corner, but I was surprised at how much better HH looked last week compared to what I remember from last year. Maybe all the talk of his improvement wasn't just smoke.
and then threw way too late for a pick to end the game

the HH lore is nutty

HH went in and played like a guy that was standing in the pocket and surveying the field. Dylan kind of defaults to "oh shit, better scramble and throw this thing away." I think that is a reflection of how much Dylan has regressed this season and the lack of corrective coaching he's had.

I'm hoping that he's healthy and the bye week allowed them to focus on the basics with a fresh perspective from the OC.

If Dylan is less than 80%, he should not play. Both for his own health and the fact that the UCLA version of him was not good.

Great post.

I think Coach Rhule was early enough, and smart enough to catch the shit show before it ruined Dylan. Pretty sad when you think about it.
