This 8-minute interview with Walter Rouse from 4 days ago (by OU 247, on the CBS Sports website) is about him going to OU, but it really sounds like a Nebraska ad. Yes, he ultimately did not come, but listen to the effect the experience of the Nebraska recruiting pitch had on him and remember he isn't a high school junior or senior, he has finished 3.5 years at Stanford.

We're going to get a lot of players if the visits are having this effect.

Video isn’t loading for me for some reason…

Cliffs on this chode’s thoughts?
Was going pro til he hurt his shoulder. Spoke highly of Nebraska and was pleasantly surprised by Lincoln & the University. Felt he might have been a bit overly influenced between his expectations and what he saw as he didn't expect much out of Lincoln. Ultimately felt OU was best for him. Seems like a good smart kid who just got wrapped up in a great visit thus pulled the string too early. After a couple days came to the realization that he felt OU would be in his best interests. Seems like a well mannered honest person who after some thinking decided OU was better for him

Rhule mentioned this as well today on the podcast. He was thinking Lincoln would be like Stillwater, OK., but was blown away by the city of Lincoln.

I'm starting to realize that most people don't know much about anything when it comes to geography and population levels of cities/metro areas, etc. Also a believer that a city's population, road system, skyline, retail, etc. plays a significant role in a city's image.

When I've traveled over the years, I like to do a quick glance to see what I'm walking into, and what my challenges will be while there. That's taught me a lot about different areas of the country, population base, and what is the truth vs. perception. It surprises me that others aren't more curious, but this is America after all.

Many Omaha and Lincoln folks think Grand Island is “way out west”. I remember Lincoln high school wrestling fans having an absolute fit when state wrestling got moved to downtown Omaha to the (then) Qwest Center. “OMFG……we’re gonna have to drive 50 miles!”

Jared Crick, hometown being Cozad, was always described as being from western Nebraska, when the reality is that Cozad is barely at the center of the state (from an east/west standpoint).

Head on west and roll into North Platte and you’ve only got 200 more miles to get to Scottsbluff/ Gering. We used to drive 270 miles, ONE WAY, for a Friday night high school football game when Gering played at McCook. And then 270 miles home.

My rant is over, and off topic from yore original point, but the number of folks that are geography-ignorant never fails to amaze me.

Many of you need to put yore big-girl geography panties on and get a clue.

We agree on this. Some of you City boys don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground about the geography of the state

Idiots. I view it as an adventure. Look at a damn map and figure it out.
