Sign Up Now!I think Venables turned down so many other interviews over the years that people just stopped bringing up his name. He’s probably the best DC in the nation and it seems like OU is the only job that he would’ve left for. This is a big reach by OU. Venables isn't a name that came up for other big jobs at all. They are totally settling for a lesser choice.
I also don't believe that this will excite the current roster or recruits. OU better dust off the gas cards and no show dealership jobs so they can stay competitive in the SEC.
It’s all about the assistants. If he hires good assistants he will be fine. It sounds like he made a good move on the offensive side which is the key. We know he will have the defense figured out. This is a big reach by OU. Venables isn't a name that came up for other big jobs at all. They are totally settling for a lesser choice.

I tend to fall into this camp.I think Venables turned down so many other interviews over the years that people just stopped bringing up his name. He’s probably the best DC in the nation and it seems like OU is the only job that he would’ve left for.
Supposedly bringing Lebby with him.
They were probably headed that way anyway if they couldn’t get their D figured out.Bad hire for them. They will slowly creep into 7-5 territory every year in the SEC
If venerables gets him or a quality oc I could see him working. They don’t think they’ll be able to get Lebby. At least they didn’t as of Thursday.
Whose left?Seems like an underwhelming hire for a program like OU.
He will. Does methI hope he fails terribly.
