Breaking USC & UCLAbia Joining BIG 10

Current Big 10 plus ND is an insanely valuable league. I would think Stanford is no. 2 on the list from there.
Yep. Stanford is a bigger lock than ND only because they don't have the independent option and they bring tons of research and education cache and $$$. ND is the grand prize 10, but Stanford is the sure thing 9.5.

We’re sitting at 16 with USC and UCLAbia. So is 20 the magic number?

Assuming they have a picking order, ND would be one slot. Then Washington, Oregon, and Stanford. So 4 pods of five teams with one pod being USC, UCLAbia, Oregon, Washington, and Stanford?

The cover 3 guys were saying on their podcast Notre Dame will be penalized heavily for joining the BIG by the Big East since they have some deal in place they can’t join a conference for 8 years after the Covid year Notre Dame played their conference schedule. They didn’t think Notre Dame would move for awhile, but the writing is on the wall to me, and I assume the money they will get in the BIG can easily pay that fine.

24 is the final # for both SEC & B1G. Either this year or in a couple years the ACC will be poached as well.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see though Miami come to the B1G.

I love the lamenting from the national writers about this move killing what we love about college football (historical and regional rivalries, the sport being less "corporate" than the NFL, etc). As though they haven't been for monumental change in the sport for 10 years in playoffs, pay for play, super conferences, etc. Now they are getting the change they've been pushing for and suddenly don't like it.

There’s a West Virginia guy who has been posting about expansion forever (mhver3) to mixed success. However, in April he posted that Fox was telling B1G to add USC and UCLAbia and then he went dark until yesterday.

Today he is saying Oregon and Washington have been told they will be in. If ND says yes, they will bring Stanford along. He says ACC desperately trying to throw together something with ND and some of the better castoffs in B12/P12. And he says the four corners schools have applied to B12.

I think his hit rate on B12 stuff has been the most tenuous. Whoever feeds him info clearly wants to paint B12 well and make sure WVU looks safe no matter what. But he’s probably worth at least paying attention to on B1G expansion since he nailed this week’s move 2 months ago.

If we get to 24, I think you probably really change the scheduling model and play one non-conference game and 11 conference, so you can cycle through everybody every 3 years. By that time, the conference is stocked and geographically diverse, the non-conference games probably matter less and you still get one moneymaker against G5 at home.

way more $$$ in conference games so I wouldn’t be surprised if tv networks pushed for that
