Breaking USC & UCLA Joining BIG 10

ASU should send their coeds to each school’s office to convince their way in.

USC on3 board:

So I got some info earlier today I’m gonna pass along in this really long post. I don’t blame anyone for dismissing anything they read on the interwebs as nonsense and this is 2nd possibly 3rd hand info, and I do not know the exact source. So make of this what you will. My dad and uncle are Norhtwestern alums as are 3 of my cousins. One of my cousins is a pretty big time business guy in Chicago and is plugged in with some folks at the Big Ten HQ there. I talked to him for a good half an hour earlier and here’s what he told me.

ND is going the Big Ten. The mega deals the BT and SEC are about to sign has finally forced ND’s hand. They would prefer to stay independent but the revenue gap is now untenable. If they want to compete at the highest levels of CFB they have to join one of the 2 leagues and the BT is the clear choice (SEC is a nonstarter). They have made the decision, it’s now just about when to officially make the move. ND has assessed that paying the 100 mil + exit fees is still a net financial winner, however if they can wait for the ACC to implode they can avoid paying much of anything at all. Is there a chance the ACC could implode within 6 months to a year? That’s what ND is contemplating at the moment. More on the ACC in a moment.

The Big Ten is going to add ND +1 and and no one else at this time. Oregon is going to be the +1 and the decision has already been made.

It’s done.
This post is the jargon filled explanation, but the simple explanation is the Ducks pull TV viewers and most of all (really the whole reason the UO is the choice) Oregon is very strong in the key 18-49 demographics. Best in the Pac by a fair amount including USC. Again the only question is when. In the next month or could the UO be in limbo for awhile? For anyone wondering about the SEC I was told Zero chance. “More likely Oregon to the NFC West than SEC.”

No full time member is leaving the ACC on their own. It would cost 400 mil or so. The question is could enough members want out that they could effectively dissolve the conference. He wasn’t exactly sure the details, but essentially are enough teams (majority?) able to band together and vote to make it happen. This will only happen if those schools are 100% assured they have a place in the BT or SEC. UVA and UNC are locks to the BT when the time comes, although the SEC might try to compete for UNC. GT, Syracuse, Duke, Pitt, maybe BC would be possibilities for the BT but nowhere near certain. FSU, Miami, Clemson are nonstarters for the BT. They aren’t AAU members and that is a stone cold must to join the BT. People have assumed those three would be slam dunks to SEC, but Florida has long fought to be the only FL team in the SEC and some others (Bama, UGA especially) have joined them in not really wanting to boost Miami/FSU recruiting in the state by gifting them the SEC brand. South Carolina has resisted adding Clemson but it’s not clear they have the juice to actually stop it. Maybe FL and co. relent in the face of the BT/SEC war for supremacy, but it’s not completely clear where FSU/Miami/Clemson stand with SEC.

With all that mind it’s unlikely everything would line up to actually blow up the ACC in the very near future, so ND is probably going to bite the bullet and make the move now. My cousin’s source estimated 80-90% ND + Oregon is announced in July, most likely the week after next. Lastly, please don’t share this on social media. That’s the only thing my cousin requested.

Miami to the BIG makes zero sense to me. I see some that say it is possible, and others that say no chance. They are way down the list imo.

The biggest losers in this may be Clemson, FSU, and Miami. Florida has not wanted another Florida school in the SEC, and if Dabo got wind of Clemson being left out in the cold for even a brief period, he could bolt for a greener pasture and Clemson could be SOL. So Car doesn't want them in the SEC either, although they probably don't have the pull to keep them out.

Miami is a good school in a major growing tv market.

Agreed.

Maryland, Penn St, Rutgers, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan State, Cockeye and of course Nebraska, all rank below them in education standings. So half.

IMO Clemson is the school that should be the most desperate to get out of the ACC. They are a small school and have very little history of success outside of the run with their current coach, and that is already starting to show cracks. Of anyone, they cannot afford to sit around and watch the competition make tens of millions of dollars a year more than them for the next 15 years.

I think Clemson is screwed either way. Dabo isn’t playing the NIL game and he lost great assistants. If and when Clemson joins the sec he isn’t going to keep it going at the level he has been.
