USA v Canada hockey - Thursday night - 7pm CT - ESPN

OK, dumb, non-hockey fanatic question here:

The other day when they started the game with three fights and everyone went to the penalty box... does that mean the rest of the team is out there playing 2-on-2 until the penalties are over?
I was not watching yet at this point of the game.
The lowest they drop to is 3 vs 3

NHL should allow us to get a replacement like Quinn Hughes

Big loss though

Hughes is considered a top 10 player in the league, McAvoy top 30

So Hughes would be a great replacement on the roster but it doesn’t sound like he will be able to play unless someone else gets injured

Thank you. So they are allowed to add a player to the ice if three or more get sent to the box.
I assume this is how the game started.

Is it the same if all the penatlies are on one team? Or would they allow 5 on 2?

It doesn't happen real often so I'm not 100% sure. Most of my knowledge comes from playing NHL on Xbox LOL. It would still be 5 vs 3 at the most, but I'm not sure if the penalties would run concurrently or if the time would start after the 1st person is out of the box at that point. I can't remember.

penalties for fighting are 5 minute majors. They serve all 5 minutes in the penalty box, both fighters, penalty isn't shortened if a goal is stored. Teams don't play shorthanded, so it was 5 v 5.

2nd fight in USA v Canada was started with a cross check minor penalty on JT Miller, so Kyle Conner for the US served that 2 minute penalty for the US since Miller was in box for 5 for the subsequent fight. Canada had a 5 on 4 penalty play, but Canada had 3 guys in the box for 5 minutes and the US had 3 in the box for 5 minutes and the US had 1 in the box for 2 minutes or until Canada scored a goal, which they didn't.

Doesn’t sound like Hughes is gonna be there. Shitty because he is elite and we need him

Another injury

If he can’t play then Quinn Hughes should be able to play
