***USA 🇺🇸 MERICA’ - FUCK WHALES 🐳 OFFICIAL GAMETHREAD***

Referee lost his yellow card when Wales made some late game professional fouls I see. He sure knew where it was to start the game when the US fouled.

Fuckin hell. Zero creativity in the attacking 1/3. Had the same two guys down the flank making the same run multiple times. No check in, check out from the three in midfield.

Wales wanted to play the first half never leaving a 45x45 box. There were multiple times that they had everyone within that space on their own half.

You’ve got to stretch that team horizontally and vertically so you can find pockets of space in behind the holding mids and in front of the center backs. That’s one way. The other is to have some shots from 25 out and force them to come out.

There was basically no attempt to do any of that. To @Baron Winnebago ‘s point, we’d serve a ball into the box that had no chance because we didn’t get more than a runner maybe two into the box and we’d be done.

Absolute shite. Best USMNT from a technical ability standpoint and this shite happens. Inexcusable.

Good thing the we still have the USMNT to be more disappointing than Nebraska football.

Creating chances against quality sides, especially not at home, has been a consistent problem under Gregg. In the year prior to the world cup, this was our output against world cup qualified sides in neutral or road venues.

Saudi Arabia: 0-0 (2 SoG)
Japan: 0-2 (0 SoG)
Mexico: 0-0 (4 SoG)
Canada: 0-2 (3 SoG)

0-2-2. 0 goals, 9 shots on goal.

And other than Mexico at the Azteca, we had 55+% possession in all of them and produced 5 shots on goal. Wales was just like those games where he had 59% possession and produced a vanishingly small number of chances (1 shot on goal, Sargent's early header off the outside of the post, and maybe you count Weah's cross that almost got turned in by a Wales defender).

But the bigger problem with Gregg has always been that he views possession as the end, not the means to scoring goals. He's perfectly happy to run his mouth about how dominant performances were because we had a ton of meaningless possession after losses where the US had a lionshare of possession didn't get a result like he did after Canada beat them 2-0 in qualifying. Our world cup hopes are now tied to being organized enough defensively to keep the damage low from England and then t bag Iran (or have Iran beat Wales so we just need to beat Iran to advance since their GD is gonna be bad)

It's going to be a really difficult mountain to climb now because we need some sort of result against England and it still might not be enough. Lets say we tie England and are sitting on 2pts. Wales wins against Iran and has 4. Just beat Iran in the last game and assume Wales loses to England, right?

"Not so fast my friend."

Iran will give blood to beat the US even in a game that would be meaningless to them. In fact if they are eliminated by then they would see the US game as their only way to return home triumphant. They will die on the field if they have to. And the same goes for Wales. They want nothing else than to defeat England...or at least not lose. Taking a point from England with a tie and the Welsh players will never have to pay for a drink in a bar again. This is the part of soccer where the game is morphed into historical struggles between nations. Welsh players grow up wishing for a chance to take their shot at England on the big stage. A tie gives them 5 points.

We need some sort of result against England to have a better chance. 4 points might not be enough to advance. And based on your above analysis we can't count on defeating Iran with a giant goal difference.... because we just don't create enough chances.

Our tournament might have ended on that stupid foul from Zimmerman because we needed the 3pts.

I kid....I know absolutely nothing about futbol

dont worry you hungover sports, just put on your skirts and git to work today like most normal people 🌈 ⚽️

It was frustrating to see our attack to just continually play the ball out wide and send high crosses into the box when our front attacking 3 aren’t very tall or the greatest at heading the ball.

In football terms…

I am the offensive coordinator and I want to run between the tackles. But the other team is stacking the LOS. So I’ve got to stretch the other team vertically or horizontally so I there is space to running between the tackles.

Instead of running some jet sweeps, ghost motion, quick passes to the boundary to get them to adjust to our offense, we just threw a ton of Yolo Bombs that didn’t have a prayer.

Captain Jack’s is lit. You know it’s a bad sign when the crowd starts chanting V-A-R! Makes no sense why it wasn’t reviewed.
