The other big names in the portal for QB won't be coming out until after Jan. 2nd, and some key names won't come out till after the NC Game. Lincoln Kleinholz is one of those names I expect to see, and he is a natural fit for Nebraska and what we want to do, he is also a Pierre, South Dakota native.

He was in a competition with both Will Howard in 2024 and Julian Sayin in 2025 for the starting role at QB. In both cases the competition was very close during the Spring and a portion of the Fall.

The nice thing about Lincoln is that he already knows the B1G and won't be troubled about getting his feet under himself against stiff competition. He is also quite smart, well trained by Day, and is built like a rock. He is a speedster as a runner as well as having a really good arm. He will remind you a lot of a guy named Joey ..... who also was never a starter in 3 years at Ohio State.

Athletic prospect who can make plays with his feet. Uses that athleticism to navigate the pocket and elude the rush. Can run, but will look to throw when he breaks contain. Throws with excellent touch. Drops passes into a bucket, gives his receivers opportunities to make plays on the ball and leads them away from coverage on vertical routes or corner routes. Productive in high school and saw some good programs but did not face many teams with D1 prospects in the secondary so he will have to adjust to the speed and windows shrinking quicker in college. Has good but not arm strength and velocity. Is going to fill in more in college and add some of that though. Far from a finished product but has a lot of good developmental tools, is a gamer, and mobility makes him fit well with today's offenses. Should develop into a Power Five starter and possible pro.

Count me out on Kienholz, he hasn’t played meaningful football in 3 years and I remember a couple of years ago when he was forced into the bowl game, he looked like dogshit.

Ryan Day knows "a thing or two" about his players and their development. He doesn't agree with you about Lincoln, and its worth noting that the TFR freshman 5* QB Tavien St. Clair, who arrived on campus couldn't displace Lincoln as the next best QB on the team behind Sayin.

The task on hand for Ryan Day in picking from Julian Sayin is much tougher than one can contemplate. Why? Lincoln Kienholz wasn’t the favorite to be the starter initially in February. But with time, the QB developed himself massively, gained a whopping 33 pounds, and showed incredible talent in the spring practices. Even Ryan Day acknowledged Kienholz’s unprecedented progress.

“There were times this spring that he felt Kienholz was a little bit ahead of Julian,” said Ryan Day after the spring games. As for Julian Sayin, we saw him throwing an interception under pressure in that spring game, and that raised some doubts about his full development. Despite that, Saying did have a good showing in the second half, completing 17/24 passes for 175 yards. However, when you have another QB hell bent on proving himself, there’s bound to be some selection dilemma on any head coach’s part.

I’m starting to warm up to this idea.

Yeah, I know it's OSU & they've had top tier guys that he was going against, but I still don't want to hand the keys to a guy who hasn't won a starting job in 3 years.

As it stands, I’d put out feelers for Brown, Craig, and Kienholz.

I’d imagine Brown will be $2 mil, might be able to get Kienholz or Craig for much cheaper.

If Kienholz sucked, he wouldn’t be QB2 behind a Heisman candidate and Day wouldn’t have kept him around as long as he did.

There’s not 15 guys in the country who would have won starting jobs against who Kienholz was up against.

This isn’t Davila not getting the nod at Purdue.

Solid post - that has been a winning formula as well - get the backup at a very successful school

Maybe as a cheap depth piece.

Dudes played in 10 games since he got to OSU in ‘23. Nice part of him though is he has 2-3 years of eligibility left.

Really think they need to go out and get the best available.

What was his story out of HS? I vaguely remember some connection outside of we recruited him?
I don’t remember either. I thought we targeted him earlier but maybe we just circled around once Rhule was hired.

For technicality I’ll allow it.
But he was in line to start at Georgia once Fromm graduated.

But he left after his freshman year after UGA baseball teammate were racist to him
He was the backup. I’ll also add McCord since he was being demoted to backup and had a great season at Syracuse his final year.

Backups transferring is a relatively new phenomenon, so the examples will only increase. You think Brooke sticks around if there was a transfer portal - I highly doubt it

Yeah, being a backup at OSU is a much different story than most other schools. If they didn’t think he could play they would process him much sooner IMO.
