Nebraska lands commitment from 2027 QB Trae Taylor

Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic On300 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor announced his commitment to Nebraska on Thursday.

The four-star Taylor chose the Huskers over his other finalists in LSU, Michigan and Texas A&M.

Commit No. 1 for head coach Matt Rhule and his staff in the 2027 cycle, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Taylor is tabbed by the On3 Industry as the nation’s No. 3 quarterback and No. 40 prospect overall.

“I feel Coach Rhule and Coach (Glenn) Thomas can really grow me as a man on and off the field.

“Their system that they have it fits the offense I’m running right now in high school that I’m having a ton of success in. Coach Rhule and Coach Thomas both have been at the highest level and have seen what it takes to get there and I feel they can really prepare me for the NFL.”

Taylor’s offer list also included Oklahoma, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Georgia, South Carolina, Miami and Colorado among others. He spent a lot of time in Lincoln throughout his process including attending games in the fall and returning this past weekend to watch the Huskers wrap up spring camp.

“What makes Nebraska so cool is their fanbase,” Taylor said. “It’s the best fanbase I’ve been around and I’ve been around some of the best. We’re talking LSU, South Carolina, Michigan, and Nebraska has topped all of them by far.”

The people at Nebraska sealed the deal for Trae Taylor

From Rhule to the students, the folks around campus made Taylor very comfortable in the environment.

“What also makes Nebraska special is their coaching staff is the most genuine, straight-up real coaching staff that I feel I’ve been around from the head coach to the recruiting analysts to the guy that shows me around on down to the professors I got to meet with and the kids on campus. I feel like that’s the type of people I want to put myself around.”

Taylor views Nebraska as a place he can compete early for playing time and Lincoln itself also helped seal the deal for Taylor.

“Just the city, the town alone, the vibe fits me better,” Taylor said. “My life will truly be surrounded by football and I don’t have to worry about anything else around me.”

Taylor has always spoken highly of the Huskers

A silent commit for over two weeks, Taylor was at home over the weekend.

“The program itself as a whole is what excites me,” he said. “They are starting to get things going the right direction. Facilities I keep saying are the best in the country. Love that I would have the opportunity to compete year one for the job as well.”

I’m with you. The fact he said that right after he committed is pretty telling. Pure speculation but I Wonder if he committed now because 1890 agreed to pay him while he’s in hs….

This point is very valid. I've mentioned it elsewhere on here, but I asked CEO of 1890 about paying high school NIL directly for commitments before signing.

He said they're hesitant to because of they don't want to sue a kid or his family if he signs elsewhere. But knows it's headed this way fast with can't miss elite kids.

However, he knew of several elite high school kids getting money from other collectives.

This will be a major problem in the future.
