I actually think the stats for the NU defense are almost guaranteed to go down in 2024. There's no way that the shitty offenses of MN, WI, PU, ILL, NW, IA are all equally as bad again in 2024. It's literally not possible.

If White moves after 2024 his best hope is showing a 2 yr track record PLUS some high profile stops at the end of games on national TV. That might help to offset the worse defensive stats in 2024.

(Unfortunately if you watched NU on TV in 2023 you saw the D breakdown to give the opponent the win WAY too many times: MN, CO, MSU, MD, WI, IA. It'd be nice for White if you tuned in in 2024 and saw the defense making the stand at the end of the game, instead of breaking to give the other team the win)
I'm with you from a most likely standpoint. It's certainly possible though. All of those offenses should get better. Schedule does get a little tougher. The last paragraph is more what I was getting at though.

A couple of things:
*there is basically no upside for TW to make a lateral move to another DC position (outside of maybe a Georgia level position). Any tater takes that Nebraska wouldn’t be willing to match another team’s offer just seem flat out wrong.

*Moving to USC would be an especially bad decision for TW. Lincoln Riley teams are baby shit soft and he runs an offensive scheme/style that makes it really hard on their defense. Say what you want about Nebraska but a run heavy/ball control style of offense will always make things easier on the defense. Nebraska’s offensive style has to have had some contribution to the defense’s improvement yhis year.

Exactly. This is DEFCON 1, Nebraska is not serious about football anymore it is what it is.

If that ”couple” is Princewill, Lenhardt, and RVP? That would be pretty fucking shitty and Defcon 5.
Defcon 1 is the most severe or urgent, the highest level of readiness for nuclear war.
Defcon 5 is the lowest, bascially normal peacetime.

???????

Our offense absolutely stunk & turned the ball over at will all season, the fact that we had a top 15 defense was solely Tony White's coaching. We literally gave teams 3-4 extra possessions a game just because of how mediocre the offense was

In theory the offense should have helped, but turning it over constantly right away in a drive on your own side of the 50 doesn’t necessarily do that.

We were top 1/3 in time of possession. They really should track # of possessions on stats websites. I'd think it mostly translates though.
