To everyone who was convinced Foley was being retained

Something tells me if he’s at Okie Lite as a punter and kicker coach that he’s not quite the guy we think he is.

But I may be incorrect.
Snyder is the only assistant designated to ST's on their website. They also have just one analyst listed at ST.

From his bio:

During his time in Manhattan, Kansas State was in the Top 15 of the ESPN Special Teams Efficiency rating five times, including first in 2017, second in 2015 and third in 2012. The Wildcats were also in the top 25 of the Football Outsiders Special Teams Rating six times, including first in 2017, third in 2014 and 2019 and sixth in 2012. Snyder was named the national Special Teams Coordinator of the Year in 2015 by FootballScoop and Phil Steele and in 2017 by Phil Steele.

Under Snyder, Kansas State's special teams units set or tied eight team records and 20 individual marks. He coached four Big 12 Special Teams Players of the Year, including three consecutive (returners Tyler Lockett in 2013 and 2014, Morgan Burns in 2015 and Joshua Youngblood in 2019). Lockett was an All-American first team kickoff returner in 2011 and punt returner in 2014. Burns earned All-American first team honors in 2015 as a kick returner when he led the country in kickoff return touchdowns (4). Youngblood was a Freshman All-American first teamer in 2019 when he ran back 3 kickoffs for TDs and helped Kansas State top the nation in kickoff return average (29.5).

Placekicker Matthew McCrane was a Freshman All-American first teamer in 2014 and All-Big 12 first team pick in 2017, while kicker Jack Cantele made the All-Big 12 first team in 2015. Kick returner Byron Pringle was All-Big 12 first team in 2016 and returner D.J. Reed was so honored in 2017.

In 2020, USC's special teams were ranked No. 1 nationally by Football Outsiders, and the Trojans were in the national top 25 in kickoff return defense (10th at 17.0) and net punting (25th at 40.8). True freshman Parker Lewis was 20th nationally in field goals (1.6), Gary Bryant Jr. (also a true freshman) was 22nd in kickoff returns (26.2), Ben Griffith's 46.4 punting average was the highest by a Trojan since 2003 and snapper Damon Johnson was a Mannelly Award finalist.

Yeah, I think I could live with that.

I ask this with all seriousness…. (Before we go nuts wanting Bill Busch back as our special teams coach. Let’s make SURE we really are getting one of the best in the country) what were his special teams units rankings before he got to Nebraska under Frost? Were we blinded because he took a piss poor special teams unit and brought them up to average? (What was our ranking under him?). If we are serious about being one of the big boys maybe we should actually get one of the true good ones. If that is Busch then wonderful, bring him back. If not then go get a good one. We didn’t go out and spend big on a good DC (JB may turn out to be a good one but I would have preferred we went with a proven one) so we should have some $$ in the pot to go after one.
If you recall, the Foley hire was universally panned on every Husker message board. People thought he was too old and had no real impressive track record of success in any particular unit.

I went along with it bc he looked like a good OOU guy and I knew Rhule needed some OOU/ride or dies to establish his culture. That was Foley's main selling point. At this point the culture has already been established though.

We gave up 10 blocked punts this year. 10. Regardless of his prior history before arriving at DONU, he's had 2 complete seasons to fix punt blocking schemes. Nobody in their right mind retains a special teams coach whose unit allows 10 blocked punts in a single season.
It doesn’t change your point, but we gave up 10 blocked kicks, not just punts.
PAT’s, field goals and punts combined.

We’re just lucky we didn’t get a kickoff blocked.

Sipple, who does a daily radio show with Busch, is adamant Busch will not be Nebraska’s special teams coach (or any coach) next year. There’s not even a hint of it being a possibility other than wishcasting by fans. Until that changes, we shouldn’t waste any time debating if he would be a good hire or not.

I don’t know how good he is, but he has been a message board favorite for special teams coach for years.

Not sure why Ron Brown couldn’t slot in there.
He already coaches the returners. Josh Martin is still there as assistant special teams, and they brought in Maher to help with the kickers. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in Boomschini next year to help with the punters if there is no NFL interest.

So Foley besides trying to find the best chicken fried steak around -

Apologies @ChocaEgg for the stray.

Enjoyed the Husker W a bit much Saturday. Was toasted!

Hope we get a splash for ST Coach. Could be the missing link between CFP and no CFP.

GBR
