We gave up 10 blocked punts this year. 10. Regardless of his prior history before arriving at DONU, he's had 2 complete seasons to fix punt blocking schemes. Nobody in their right mind retains a special teams coach whose unit allows 10 blocked punts in a single season.I ask this with all seriousness…. (Before we go nuts wanting Bill Busch back as our special teams coach. Let’s make SURE we really are getting one of the best in the country) what were his special teams units rankings before he got to Nebraska under Frost? Were we blinded because he took a piss poor special teams unit and brought them up to average? (What was our ranking under him?). If we are serious about being one of the big boys maybe we should actually get one of the true good ones. If that is Busch then wonderful, bring him back. If not then go get a good one. We didn’t go out and spend big on a good DC (JB may turn out to be a good one but I would have preferred we went with a proven one) so we should have some $$ in the pot to go after one.
That’s why I’m assuming (and hoping) Foley is gone. I was speaking about who we were going to get as his replacement. We gave up 10 blocked punts this year. 10. Sean Snyder the elusive unicorn. This guy is coaching P/K at Okie light. Frost damn near had him here once and Gundy is under fire.

The sad part is most of us novices could see Foley and Satterfield were weak links from the start. I get Satterfield a little more because he wasn’t suppose to be the OC by himself, but keeping Foley around after last year is infuriating. With decent special teams Rhule probably wins 3-4 more games the past couple seasons. We don’t have top end talent in the BIG, so it’s essential to fix it.We gave up 10 blocked punts this year. 10. They were both horrible hires, but hindsight is 20/20 at this point. Rhule has all the resources to fix these issues. He made a good move with Holgerson. Hopefully he makes the correct moves on special teams going forward.I don’t think they were great hires but I also don’t think that hiring coaches that Rhule is less comfortable with in Year 1 would have helped / mattered.
It’s almost better to get guys who know the drill in terms of culture etc. and then upgrade after a year or two once that is established when you have more time to evaluate.
Again, not great hires by any means, but it’s easier to introduce a couple new coaches into an established culture vs. meshing a bunch of new personalities. Fit definitely matters as we saw with Bob Diaco.
I'm very excited to see what a Dana offense looks like with a full offseason and added firepower at WR.They were both horrible hires, but hindsight is 20/20 at this point.
