Thoughts on the pitch clock for MLB?

Yes, Colorado is considered one of the smallest markets in MLB for TV & Radio Revenue. Besides the immediate Denver/Boulder/Colorado Springs Metro Area there is only 1 city within 500 miles of Denver with a population over 100,000, and that's Albuquerque at about 450 miles. So outside of the Denver marker you are somewhat isolated when it comes to ease of travel to a game or finding markets that will pay to pick up TV & Radio broadcasts. Go 500 miles in every direction and you hit pretty much nothing. Hence the reason they generate one of the lowest TV & Radio Revenues. No big radio or tv stations to pick them up. Even the Royals have 7-8 closer cities of over 100,000: Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines, Tulsa, Columbia, Springfield, Oklahoma City..... that might pick up Royals games broadcasts. The neighboring states to Colorado don't even have moderate population bases. Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, New Mexico & Kansas. I think the Rockies are the 4th lowest TV Revenue just below Minnesota and the Royals.

You just love to argue on all of my posts don't ya? God I feel like I have you in my jock questioning my posts all the time. Even the Machado Article you linked literally listed them as a Small Market Team but you are trying to use that to disprove my statement about the Rockies being a Small Market Team?
Large (10): Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Cubs, White Sox, Phillies, Rangers, Braves, Red Sox
Middle (10): Astros, Blue Jays, Nationals, Giants, A's, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Rays, Tigers, Twins
Small (10): Rockies, Marlins, Guardians, Cardinals, Pirates, Orioles, Padres, Royals, Reds, Brewers

Read my post again. You posted number of households in one article which does not equate to overall TV/Radio Revenue. I didn't understand this until Charlie explained it to me as to the advantages and disadvantages teams have. Yes, Denver/Boulder/Co Springs have quite a few homes. But that only means 1-2 radio/tv stations. There are no towns around them of any size to generate additional big contracts. Denver is literally in the middle of no where.
I disagree with the way the Monforts run the team and literally told Charlie to sell it, more than once.

The team might have value if sold but they don't have deep enough pockets to feel comfortable dipping into their own money. Revenue Sharing has been slowly improving but still a grossly tilted financial scale unlike NBA & NFL. Charlie is a fun hang but Dick is a Dick. We couldn't stand him. He is all about the money and that is it. I don't agree with the way they have run the team and when they have opened the team wallet it has been a bad signing. But I appreciate what they did because without them Denver wouldn't have the Rockies. Original owners didn't have the money. They were approached about buying in so MLB wouldn't move the franchise somewhere else. Even when their partner McMorris ran into serious financial problems they stepped up to buy him out. I respect them for that.

Here's an article that lists the 2020 TV Revenue and the Rockies were 4th from the bottom.

In addition to the pitch clock, they should also limit the pitcher to one attempt to pick off an on-base runner. Would speed up the game and add more excitement, maybe more scoring.

Nothing entertaining about watching the pitcher throw to 1st 5-7 times in a row.

They actually did put in a limit like that! I can’t remember the specifics, I don’t think it was that severe, but I have to imagine that will work great too.

I agree the repeated pick-off attempts can be frustrating, but this could lead to a disproportionately huge increase in stolen bases over prior eras. Might be a bridge too far.

I'm not personally a fan of rule changes that impact in-game play significantly, shift restrictions not withstanding which I'm also glad was addressed. I like the pitch clock rule because it just gets the ball in play. However, I grew up watching Vince Coleman, Tim Raines, Willie Wilson, and Rickey Henderson terrorize the basepaths and that excitement is definitely missing from today's game and I'm hoping the larger bases will lead to a materially higher percentage of stolen base attempts.

Edit... you're getting most of your wish. I was unaware of this, but they are also limiting the pitcher to two disengagements from the rubber per plate appearance and a Pick Off move is counted as a disengagement. There's going to be a massive increase in stolen bases.

I don’t recall any of your other posts. Sorry if that’s the case.

I just really don’t think the monforts have ever made an effort to win baseball games, and don’t think being in CO should be an excuse for that.

I like it. I just think of the average fan at home trying to watch a game. It’s so easy to lose focus on doing other things while waiting and waiting. Speeds up the process and can keep fans more engaged in the stadium and at home

It's been great watching baseball games so far.

Remember, the pitch clock is nothing new for a lot of the players. I would bet that over half of the current MLB players have dealt with the clock already during their minor league stints.

All players will adjust by mid-May, and nobody will really be talking about it anymore.

I will enjoy being able to watch a 7 p.m. game and not have to tell my son that he has to go to bed b/c it's 10:30 and it's only the 7th inning stretch.

The pitch clock was needed sadly, and it makes perfect, based on AAA results, should expect 20 minutes off the game which is a good chunk, but should make the viewing experience much better especially in the last three innings of the game where relievers are some of the biggest abusers of pace. Holding the batter accountable as well should also enforce that this is not just rule applied to pitchers as well.

The pickoffs is understandable with only a max of two pickoffs where the third will result in an out or a balk. I have watched baseball consistently for almost 20 years and I will hopefully enjoy some sub 3 hour games.

Colorado has attempted a few times, but every big or biggish contract guy they have signed has been a flop for the most part and Rockies can't absorb mistakes like the Yankees or Dodgers.

I didn’t know they did that either, so that’s a good thing IMO. Maybe have pre-2023 records and 2023+ records? (I know this won’t happen)

I don't watch a lot of baseball but it seems like this will help TV the most. I get more annoyed at the time between pitches while watching on TV, and hardly notice it live in person. It probably has to do with the atmosphere at the stadium, but I hardly even notice it there.

Literally every one. Awfully managed ball club.

Very slow and relaxing sport, you can easily have a conversation while watching and the atmosphere at MLB games are usually great, but to the casual fan, 3.5 hours of strikeouts and sprinkled with a homer or two is unbearable. Realistically with the sharp increase in speed from the pitchers it may be worth considering moving the mound back.

I miss the Juiced baseballs. Watching the Rockies with Walker, Bichette, Helton, Vinny Castilla, Ellis Burkes........ scaring the poop out of opposing pitchers. A 7 run lead in the 8th inning was anything but safe. I went to the first 2 games at Coors Field. The Home Run by Bichette in their first ever game there was epic. The combination of Juiced Ball and thin air at elevation was glorious to watch.
