Maybe it's just me, but I don't want or think that any of our scholarship QB's should transfer at this point. You need depth and as past seasons have taught us, it is rare that a starting QB starts the entire season.

Since Smothers and Haarberg are the speculated transfers:

• Smothers came in and played well vs Cockeye. He isn't a guy that starts for an entire season, but he proved he can come in and be a competent QB. He may not fit Whipple's system, but is worthy depth.
• Haarberg is a FR. I'd give him another year at the very least to develop and determine if he's a QB but not giving up on him yet.

There is a case for having depth and we need it. We should also give guys like HH the chance to develop.

Smothers would be my bet. I expect Chubba to be QB2 and frankly wouldn't surprise me if he was pushing Casey. Plus I know Chubba is Whips guy. If Whip was at Pitt Chubba would be there. Same with WW3.

Do they still run it? They just hired Clay Helton so I'm assuming they ditched it.

I loved watching GA Southern's option out of the shotgun. They had been a traditional flexbone before adapting it in recent years.

I’ve heard the same regarding Thompson from practices those have seen. I believe the thumb isn’t healed and I’m afraid he will be named the starter regardless, even if he’s the third best QB on the roster. Till we lose of course and Frost knows he needs to do anything to win and not worry about keeping Thompson happy he will be benched.

People can say no way we can be worse on offensive line….but I think we are going to be worse on the offensive line. Who’s our best player? A guy who was a true freshman last year who played 2 games? Do we have a true workhorse running back who can create plays like we saw under Bo?

I know this sounds like doom and gloom as well but I do not see the optimism others do with this team. I see 5-7, 6-6 at best.

Northwestern will be a challenge, are they a good team? No. Do they have a good coach who has had a entire offseason to prepare for a Frost lead team? Yes. Would not be surprised if we lost in Ireland. All the pressure is on Nebraska to win this game, why do we all think the University kept trying to get it moved. It’s a distraction this team doesn’t need or can afford.

The defense will be good, but they will need some time to get there feet wet and can see early big plays being given up.

I heard briefly on the radio Whipple did an interview and he basically said it’s Thompson’s job.

When Sean did his ABM QB interview 2 weeks ago Thompson, Chubba, and Matt Masker did it.

They talked about how they thought the Qb competition was healthy and they were excited for the season. Safe to say those 3 aren’t going anywhere. Masker mentioned he had options at lower schools this summer but wanted to stay and see this through.

Smothers and Haarberg didn’t partake in the interview. Read into that how you like.
