Bill Busch who WASN'T EVEN A DEFENSIVE COACH this year... had not sat in on a single defensive coaching session all year.... just ran circles around Chinander in one fuckin game as emergency DC. Fuckin humiliating for Chinander.

To make matters worse, Busch didn't have a full bye week to implement his defense - he had FIVE practices over 2 weeks. Holy fucking humiliation for Chin. JFC that is embarrassing. The dude literally had 5 practices to get the defense together and they looked 10000% better than the dude who had 4+ seasons to prep for this.

I’d go as far as this was one of the better defensive performances of the last two staffs.

Yeah idk what happened with Chins this year....

But it is amazing what Busch did in 2 weeks. Get your alignment and assignments correct then let your athletes be athletes!
Let me ask….maybe I misunderstood but it sounds like chin tried to predict exactly what the opposing offenses were going to run on each play and then have his guys try to understand calls specifically for that play.
The question: if my understanding is correct, how many other DCs actually try to adjust on that level? Seems like a pipe dream and a freakin disaster (as we’ve experienced).

I mean every DC tried to predict what the OC is going to call.

I think what they did this week was take out a few coverages and focused on getting their alignment and assignments right. Not over coaching them and allowing them to be athletes.

I remember watching the LSU national championship game from the coaches room. It seemed like all they did was man free defense. Now this is a defense that had multiple first rounders on it, but being simple and executing is bigger than out coaching and not getting lined up.

He actually seems like a decent dude so I'm not trying to shovel dirt on the guy's coaching grave.... but how in God's green earth can you be that bad as a DC??? And each game was getting worse than the game before.
He prob has a nice size dong, listens to Led Zeppelin, wears fruit of the loom. hope he lands somewhere like Schuyler,ne for his next corchin job

He does have experience as an FBS defensive coordinator, though.
My point is: when a DC is fired mid-season, 99.999999% of the time the interim DC is a guy on the defensive staff. We know why Busch was named DC, but the fact that there was a ST coordinator moved to interim DC is pretty remarkable.

As Busch said, he had not sat in on a single defensive meeting all year. It just makes tonight more impressive, that's all.

Props to the D ….period. They played lights out, ears back, flying to the ball for all but the last 5 (or so) mins of the 2nd Q.

I’m super proud of the entire team because our track record w Frost, and at least this year w Chins, would have been to give up the ghost when IN came back at the end of the 2nd Q. Winning breeds a winning mentality, so this is a big step forward.

Now for a tempered view. IN is a team that we should have beat. They came to Lincoln 3-1, with a notable loss to Cincy and the only win of note was a 3 pt victory over Illini. I would have dismissed the win over Illini had they not just upset Wisky.

My point is that this win looked like one a half-decent NU should be expected to win with our talent base. There is hope now that the coaches are making adjustments during the game, playing the best players (not favorites) and seemingly developing talent. I’m guessing most of you are still in wait-and-ser mode, but there is certainly some reason for optimism. MJ deserves a lot of credit for getting that team to play like a half-decent NU team should. That is not a dismissive statement, it is a ringing endorsement.
