So basically the punt protect team blocked for Cerni but Pryzstup was in. How come no one saw this and called a timeout????? JFC

You'd think Przystup himself would have the latitude to see that they were lined up wrong and call a timeout himself.

I am not sure... That is why I tagged who I tagged.... I think it is a punt right and the shield was set up right. Prystup was basically a yard to the right and aiming that way.

41 just decided to not block the guy who blocked it.

I'm not reading that, way too long. However here is what I know from seeing around 200 punt blocking/coverage in practice.

Their blocking on that punt is "Reno". Which is gap/man to the right. Step gap, block thousand two then release into coverage. Their directional kicks are 75% at best.

I was a punt block specialist in college and within a few minutes I could detect a weakness on the left side with Przystup punting. Run 2 through B, inside guy get end shield, outside gets blocked. Guy comes off edge free. This very thing is something we did alot of.

Any good special teams would check into max protect with 8 down B gaps doubled up, especially on any single shield side. Or be smart enough to block gap left (they call it Lincoln). The other stupid thing is they call out blocking direction and point. Literally giving a punt block team who's blocking who.

Would Przystup have authority to call a timeout there if he didn't like what he saw?

Or is he simply supposed to check down to a different blocking coverage?

He did neither so I'm wondering what he saw when he was standing back there. The fact that it appeared to be evident even to fans in the cheap seats that that was gonna get blocked, yet Pryzstup just rolled with it, is a little strange.

My guess is yes, but you should have blocked this up. He isn't really focused on getting the blocking right. It should be the shield making the call.

I think 41 needed to get a punch on the guy who ended up with the block

Definitely a fair question why we're still attempting any directional kicks when we can't execute. Either we have two coaches responsible on ST and they're not coordinating properly or Dawson is retarded.

Scott has an innate ability to speak things into existence.

“It’s not the special teams, it’s the specialists.”

Then the very next week something like this happens.

It’s a comedy of errors with this staff

Pretty incredible that the protection was set the wrong way. No coaches saw it? The punter didn't think to move the guy over?

And yes the splits for Nebraska's shield punt drive me nuts. I can not figure out why they wouldn't want to be so tight and make such a short edge.

Here is the standard punt I have used for years:

I have also switched between a standard punt and rugby punt in games. It keeps teams on their toes and makes teams work on lining up against both, blocking both and returning both. Plus we always waited until the ball was set, sprinted our punt team out and gotten the snap off as quickly as possible so teams couldn't get lined up in a punt block.

When you think about the amount of times, you hear rumors of receivers not playing because of not knowing an assignment. Or wasted timeouts and delay of games because Nebraska has a receiver that should be lined up below the numbers instead of 3 yards inside to only run a split zone play. But they let this type of play be ran and essentially flip an entire game is pretty disheartening.

@Bootleg11 its ridiculous to coach intelligently and keep teams off balance 🤣 while being able to properly line up and block correctly… absurd

It's a tough ask. To be fair we guys at the high school level have all the time in the world to prep for this stuff. We don't do anything but coach football

(this was sarcasm)
Yes, I hope it can improve, but the focus (from everyone) has been so lacking in crucial moments for 4 years, it seems like hoping for drastic improvement is a foolish endeavor.
At literally the most critical play in the game (every play can be the most critical tbh) you don’t have the right protection for the right punter? And nobody realizes it until the other team is dancing in the endzone? That level of ineptitude is mind-bottling for a collegiate staff.
