Robert Anae

I see so many people mentioning Dawson moving on because we have 2 LB Coaches and really need a Special Teams Coach. What is the advantage of keeping Ruud over Dawson? Ruud has recruited well but is inexperienced and has only coached Inside Linebackers. Also our Inside Linebackers have struggled with tackling at times and a few other areas of the game so not like they are excelling. Dawson is a veteran with NFL coaching experience plus can coach multiple positions, so not just Linebacker. If Tuioti was to leave you can slide Dawson to D Line Coach. Offers much more experience and versatility. Chinander can help out with Linebackers to reduce the burden. The only reason I see Frost keeping Ruud over Dawson is because Ruud played for Nebraska.

I think the 4 best coaches Frost had on this seasons staff were Beckton, Tuioti, Dawson & Fischer.

Honest question with no malice behind it at all…

How long does someone have to be coaching before they transition from being inexperienced to experienced? Do they have to have moved schools once or twice?

Rudd has been a full time coach for four years now to date. I consider the people who have been at my former places of employment for four plus years experienced.

Definitely something I was asking myself when I typed that out. Experience can come in years and/or working under different coaches and systems. I feel like Ruud has only worked under Frost so his experience is limited to what he has learned from Frost/Chinander. Plus he has only coached one small position, Inside Linebackers. I personally in this day and age I think there is a big benefit to having worked under different systems. It is a faster changing football landscape compared to 30 years ago during our run in the 90's. We see so much change, and fast. Working under different systems could better prepare you for the change.

Look at our offense this year in our first game against Illinois where Frost said we basically lost half of our playbook because they came out in a defensive front we weren't prepared for. Do you think that Nick Saban, Mike Gundy, Jim Harbaugh, James Franklin,....... would lose half of their playbook if someone came out in a 3-4 instead of a 4-3 or vice versa? Those are situations where a coach with a more diverse set of experience would have known what to do. I consider our staff a bit inexperienced because most have the vast majority of their higher level coaching experience working under Frost. Someone like Busch, Tuioti and Dawson have been exposed to a wider variety of systems and experiences. I think Tuioti & Dawson are the only asst coaches on our staff that have Power5 experience anywhere except Nebraska. Now we can add Mickey Joseph to that list.

Ok, new (probably dumbass) idea. You bring Anae in as OC and he works with the interior OL. Beckton has the TEs and OTs. Mickey Joseph comes in with the WRs and recruiting. Ron Brown has the RBs (not my top choice, but he will do a damn good job). QB is where is gets interesting. Ideally, Dawson moves on, Chinander works with the OLBs. That would mean we could bring in a QB coach and a Special Teams coordinator. Willie Korn comes on down to coach QBs and either Busch or Snyder are in charge of Special Teams. More than likely though, Dawson stays, no Willie Korn/QB coach, and Frost will coach that unit.
Why couldn’t the tightends just work between the offensive line and receivers in all reality?

I’ve been thinking about the timing of Mendenhall stepping down and how it relates to what Schafer has reported.

Schafer said well before the Mendenhall news broke that a successful, sitting P5 OC was interested in the NU job and actually insinuated that this coach had actually been the one to initiate contact.

What kind of sitting P5 coordinator would initiate contact in what seems from the outside looking in to be a lateral move?

Probably one who was given a couple weeks heads-up by his long-time coaching partner that he has getting ready to step down at the conclusion of the season.

An OC working under a hot seat coach wouldn’t initiate that contact. Neither would an OC who has a good thing Going and a stable staff.

Anae is literally the only coach who fits that description, so I think there are legs to it.

Would explain why we have been slow playing Brent Davis too.

I think Harrell, Davis, and a couple others are backup plans because Frost wanted to make sure he wasn’t getting played by Anae.

Anae would be a great hire especially if he could bring over that QB of his.

Virginia to Nebraska will never be a lateral move

From what I've been told Anae is very particular of where he is going to coach given his faith.

No clue what would be attractive to Lincoln for a Morman. Not saying it is or isn't... I just don't know.

Interesting. Assuming that means he doesn't just want to go back to a place like AZ/UT/ID w/ a big Mormon population, being a Mormon doesn't really matter in any of these other spots. My guess he probably wants to avoid a place like Auburn where you get into the shadier side of college football.

There's always been a big FCA thing with Nebraska football. Maybe that's a draw here.

Morman's are the most money-hungry people on the planet. If you double his salary, he will come with all 12 of his children.
