Robert Anae

Question for those that know, how many OCs at the P5 level have also coached the OL aside from Barney Cotton and Bill Bedenbaugh (co-OC at OU)?

Obviously he could get help with analysts and GAs, but it feels like that's a pretty uncommon combo. Anae has experience with both, but has never had OC and OL duties at the same time.

Will add that I really like the potential.
I think Frost will honestly take some workload off of whoever the OC is. He’s too proud and too good schematically (at least when there’s a lot of field in front of him) too totally hand it over.

They’d need to get creative but I would guess if it is Anae it looks something like this: they split scheming/game planning duties during prep and Anae has sole control of the offense during games from the booth while Beckton works both OL and TE on the sidelines during the games.

We know Ron can develop players but can he still recruit? Does he want to recruit?

What's Anae like as a recruiter? Outside of Beckton and possibly Joseph there aren't many heavy hitters on the offensive staff.
Brown would be short term to settle the young room down & develop
Joseph brings recruiting cache that we haven’t had for quite awhile. Could he real targets into Lincoln? That’s a big question. I’d put him on the level as uncle Keith without the drinking problem tho. So probably better kids he targets rather than ones with baggage like “Unc”.
Anae would be exactly what we need in an OC, I’m a little concerned not having a Qb coach bc Thst limits the Qb prospects u can bring in & this offense needs exceptional Qb play. Right now we just have projects in the Qb room.
I think it’s Harrell or Anae if the delay truely is bc coaches are still cosching
If it was Davis, I’d think that would have been announced already

Not sure of his prowess as a recruiter, but he is from Hawaii originally so hopefully he’d be able to create more inroads there, as well as in Utah where he played and coached at BYU. Maybe help reestablish that fabled #PolyPipeline.

Good point
Would be difficult having ur Oline coach in the booth during games
U really need ur OL coach on the sidelines to help with adjustments
I think Anae worked from the sidelines at UVA tho

I think if you get a ST coordinator he will likely need to be involved in the offense more than a typical CEO.

If the offense is viewed as a problem do you think taking 2 coaches away will fix it?

You’re totally right.

Beckton works with the OL quite a bit already at practice just from a drills and skills standpoint because of the skills that his TE’s need to be able to cross over. Could he take on the extra burden and work them during the game? I don’t know.

Definitely an advantage to OC being up top and OL being on the field though.

Ok, new (probably dumbass) idea. You bring Anae in as OC and he works with the interior OL. Beckton has the TEs and OTs. Mickey Joseph comes in with the WRs and recruiting. Ron Brown has the RBs (not my top choice, but he will do a damn good job). QB is where is gets interesting. Ideally, Dawson moves on, Chinander works with the OLBs. That would mean we could bring in a QB coach and a Special Teams coordinator. Willie Korn comes on down to coach QBs and either Busch or Snyder are in charge of Special Teams. More than likely though, Dawson stays, no Willie Korn/QB coach, and Frost will coach that unit.

I see so many people mentioning Dawson moving on because we have 2 LB Coaches and really need a Special Teams Coach. What is the advantage of keeping Ruud over Dawson? Ruud has recruited well but is inexperienced and has only coached Inside Linebackers. Also our Inside Linebackers have struggled with tackling at times and a few other areas of the game so not like they are excelling. Dawson is a veteran with NFL coaching experience plus can coach multiple positions, so not just Linebacker. If Tuioti was to leave you can slide Dawson to D Line Coach. Offers much more experience and versatility. Chinander can help out with Linebackers to reduce the burden. The only reason I see Frost keeping Ruud over Dawson is because Ruud played for Nebraska.

I think the 4 best coaches Frost had on this seasons staff were Beckton, Tuioti, Dawson & Fischer.

That's totally fair. But Dawson has already moved on once and I think is much more likely to move on again.

I would argue that Ruud did some great work with the ILB’s this past season. The first 3 we’re pretty underwhelming. But we between Heinrich and Riemer we have two very solid ILB’s with a few years left. I think Riemer got snubbed in the awards. He was 3rd in the conference with 60 solo tackles and only was honorable mention.

Do we really think that this staff will be here for 2023? It might not matter. I understand Ruud could work out as a long term asst coach which would be great but we are basically in "Win Now" mode. Gotta put friendships and Participation Awards aside right now because we need W's. Which coach is going to give you the best chance at W's for 2022?

Posted this on RSS, but if you take the opening game of the year starters, it is actually:

Lee (2009)
Martinez (2010-2013)
Armstrong (2014-2016)
Lee (2017)
Martinez (2018-2021)
and now we have to get Armstrong (2022-?)
Can’t tell if I like this or if I hate it.

Color me confused.

Shit i completely forgot about the Lee quarterbacks

I'm just going to assume that Anae is coming here and that he is bringing Armstrong with him, Frost is coaching QBs, Brown is coaching RBs, and Busch is the ST coordinator.

It's all a done deal you guys. We have a Power 5 coaching staff now.
