Rhule to PSU / Dyl-Gone Raiola Schizo Panic Thread

Yeah unfortunately this is just a part of the new reality of college football. In a previous era, we would be saying "if Lateef wins 1-2 more games there should definitely be an open QB competition in the spring, Dylan vs. TJ, may the best man win, how exciting!"

But those days are over, you basically have to make your starter decision by the end of the previous season and then expect the other guy to leave.
Nobody is better off for it

Personally, I've never been able to fully embrace Dylan because I felt like he would eventually find a reason to leave and here we are (potentially).

I recently read or heard how Rhule said it rarely works out for legacy kids going to play at their parent's Alma Mater. I'm starting to think he's ready to move on as well.
I mean he’s not really leaving by choice though if TJ plays good enough to take his job. You’re never going to have 2 high level colleg qbs anymore, there’s way too many teams that need a qb and will pay them. Can’t really blame him for leaving if TJ takes his job.

Even worse now with no spring portal.

If the behind the scenes chatter that the Raiolas aren't happy with Thomas is true, then it sounds like a leveraged threat of leaving. I'm with you on the 2 QB point, but I think there's a lot more to the story.

Nobody is throwing him to the side. You have two parties rejecting him right now

1. prisoner of the moment taters (will always exist)

2. People who see the team on a spreadsheet (myself) and realize its moneyball. Dylan will be one of the 10 highest paid players in the country next year. If its here I don't think the team is that much better off for it. If he leaves the program feels the same way. Its the Nico/Tennessee issue. I would rather have 2nd year Lateef and spend an additional $2mm on the OL.

Edit - Like Nico, he's welcome to stay and accept what the team can pay him. If he was being tossed aside that wouldn't be an option. This year Dylan was one of the highest paid players in the country and we had seriously glaring holes that could have been filled by guys we got outbid for (future NFL starter Isaiah World)
To point 2, when a large chunk of his NIL is coming from Adidas, how does that impact the rest of our NIL overall? Are WE really paying him that much out of our own pockets/NIL pool? I honestly have no idea how that works

I would be shocked if he wasnt the highest paid player on the team adidas money aside

There will be no Qb controversy. If TJ plays well enough, there is 0 chance they are both on the roster into the spring. With no spring portal, one of them will be gone.
Maybe. I think they are both here next spring. I highly doubt TJ plays well enough over the next 3 games to make himself the guaranteed starter next season. Dylan still owns this team at this point. The only thing that would change that is if TJ balls out and we go 2-1 or 3-0 over the next 3 games.

If he really doesn’t like Thomas then he’s gone because Rhule went out of his way to praise Thomas in that presser.

This is the longest he’s ever been at a program so we were really wishing for a lot. He can be someone else’s reality show
