Maybe the staff knew he was a ND lock and only offered to appease the fan base that would cry about it.

Oh we will cry about it regardless brother. Nevermind whether we ask ourselves why Rhule who has shown he will offer almost anyone instate he thinks could maybe be developed into a good player someday hadn't offered Rezac.

some comments by Tim Prister of 247's Notre Dame site on Rezac

• When I think of…Notre Dame offering a scholarship to prep linebacker Teddy Rezac -- the three-star, No. 950 prospect in the Class of 2024 out of Omaha, Neb. -- it’s a decision that better hit should Rezac choose the Irish, otherwise Marcus Freeman and Al Golden will be living that down for the rest of their time at Notre Dame.

At a time in college football when NIL, the transfer portal and the overall volatile nature of today’s recruiting game has programs shooting for the stars, the Irish can’t afford to miss on a prospect that fits the old mold that often was enough through the years at Notre Dame.

Didn't take long for someone on RSS to say we didn't offer soon enough.

When a kid commits in less than a week to any school, it says a lot about how much they liked the school.

this is such a good point! Why do people simply assume in these cases that the other school's coaches must evaluate talent better than our coaches? There really isn't much noticeable evidence to support the notion that Freeman et al identify talent better than Rhule.

Probably never know but it would be interesting to hear what their coaches see in him that our coaches don't. It's not like our guys wouldn't have evaluated him, maybe we have guys higher on our board interested?

DB was on with Sautter today and they were talking recruiting and ironically Rezac prior to his commitment. Said ND was the first to show interest and then offered first, Rezac apparently really liked that. Not sure if he was talking about Nebraska specifically or not but one particular school said his track times were slower than his game film and were hesitant to offer. Would be interested to see/hear if that was Nebraska. Also said that schools interested in his brother should recruit them individually.

Five thoughts on 2024 linebacker Teddy Rezac’s Notre Dame commitment

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden has achieved his first recruiting victory with the Fighting Irish. On Friday, Notre Dame landed a commitment from 2024 three-star linebacker Teddy Rezac.
Here are five thoughts on Notre Dame’s latest verbal commitment.
1. On the surface, Rezac’s commitment appears to be premature. But then, after digging a little deeper, it’s apparent Golden found a diamond in the rough.
According to Rezac’s head coach at Westside High, Paul Limongi, Rezac has checked in at 6-4 and closer to 200 pounds. This spring, he also ran a 4.49-second hand-timed 40-yard dash without hardly any training. Rezac is a standout baseball player and does not run track.
It is a bit concerning that in-state school Nebraska took until Thursday to offer Rezac after it previously handed out scholarship offers to Westside 2024 safety Caleb Benning and 2025 linebacker Christian Jones. It makes even less sense after Rezac reported visiting the in-state school on April 6.
Still, it looks like the Irish just chose to listen to Limongi the soonest and locked Rezac into their 2024 class before other schools joined the mix. Limongi’s built-in credibility with the Notre Dame staff after coaching safety Xavier Watts at Omaha (Neb.) Burke was key in the Irish offering Rezac now.
2. this is the first recruiting victory where Golden was the primary recruiter. And it took less than a week for his efforts to pay off. Golden offered Rezac last Saturday.
3. It would be ideal for the Irish if Rezac’s commitment opened the door into Nebraska to land a pair of other in-state targets. One of them being Jones, Rezac’s teammate at Westside.
The 6-3, 215-pound Jones is the No. 137 overall player, No. 12 linebacker and No. 1 prospect in Nebraska in 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Notre Dame offered the four-star Jones — and 64 other new recruits — during its Pot of Gold Day recruiting event on March 17.
Jones considered making it to South Bend for the Blue-Gold Game on April 22. But a schedule conflict caused him to stay in-state that day. Still, he has some initial interest in the Irish and Rezac being a part of Notre Dame certainly can’t hurt.
The Irish are also in the thick of 2024 four-star tight end Carter Nelson’s recruitment. The 6-4, 215-pound Nelson plays his high school football at Ainsworth (Neb.), and most college programs across the country covet the No. 124 overall player, No. 10 tight end and No. 1 prospect in Nebraska, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
Although Notre Dame is working behind Nebraska and others, they’ll get one of Nelson’s official visits from June 9-11. He already made it to South Bend on Nov. 19 for the Boston College game.
4. I am surprised that former Notre Dame defensive coordinator and current Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea hasn’t offered Rezac a scholarship. Teddy’s older brother, Dominic Rezac, is a rising sophomore linebacker/safety for the Commodores.
Teddy’s reported two unofficial college recruiting visits to Vanderbilt, the latest being March 25.

He had one school give him the full court press and he fell for it.
Nebraska, nor anyone else got the chance to roll out the red carpet for him as an offered, wanted prospect.

This spring, he also ran a 4.49-second hand-timed 40-yard dash without hardly any training.
Not sure we'd take anyone this slow

Difference in the Hand and Electronic Times sorted by magnitude

From the data collected, it can be concluded that the delay between the hand start and the electronic start (when arranged by magnitude) is evenly distributed between 0.10 and 0.25 seconds. Therefore, based on
this experiment data (and only accounting for human error at the start not the finish line), the average hand-timed 40 yard run is 0.175 + .075 seconds “faster” than a fully electronic time.

Huh.
The accepted conversation in track and field is adding 0.24 seconds to a handheld time to get an electronic equivalent.
