Doc, this is hard core crootin thread

I spoke with Daevonn's dad on Sunday (great guy!) and asked him how his visit went. He went with Daevonn this time, since his mom went with him last time and he wanted to meet some of the new coaches that he hadn't had a chance to meet yet. The family is very impressed with Mickey Joseph and like him a lot. Said that Mickey has clear plan for how he wants to run his WR room and is just a good energy guy. It doesn't hurt having Jamarr Chase and Justin Jefferson on his resume right now too - they are acively aware of his ability to put high-end guys in the League. They also met with Frost and he said that meeting went very well too, but he didn't elaborate as much on that meeting.

Aside from the visit, he said that Daevonn's recruitment is really starting to pick up and they are starting to hear from a lot of different Big Ten schools. He mentioned that Daevonn said that he would like to visit Gaetz St, but his mom shut that down pretty quickly, asking why, because there is no way that he goes to college that far from home. The visit still might happen, but I obviously think distance from home is a huge factor here and wouldn't be too concerned about it. He all but told me that if they had to make a decision right now, he would commit to Nebraska. But it is still early in his process and they are letting things play out a bit.

Personally, I got a pretty strong feeling that he is Nebraska's to lose and it would take something pretty catastrophic for that to change. I'm officially entering my blue balls for him to be N.

Listened to the Cover 3 podcast. 500 less high school kids signed with power 5 last year. They expect possibly more this year.

The transfer portal has changed recruiting so much in such short order.

Group of 5 schools are going to inevitably get better "diamonds in the rough" type of recruits. However, if they develop them, power 5 schools will snatch them up in the portal 2 years later. The real powers are only going to recruit recruits with the highest ceilings because if they miss they'll just poach other teams really good players. If you were a kid from Georgia that's going to say...Nebraska...because Georgia didn't offer. You end up being an absolute stud and Georgia's portal staff (this is absolutely a real thing. The big time players are hiring ex NFL scouts to only study kids currently playing for other teams) reaches out to you via your old high school coach or 7v7 coach or parent about transferring to Georgia...what would you do?

Recruiting now has two pillars.

1. Recruiting HS and JUCO talent.
2. Poaching from other teams.

If Nebraska doesn't already have a group of people whose job it is to poach players from other schools then they are doing it wrong.

It's gonna be a free for all until enough coaches get tired of this and demand some rules be put in place.

Think Group of 5 or FCS schools will basically become JUCO schools? I could see Alabama telling a kid, "we don't have room for you now go to UAB and we'll re-evaluate in a year or two."

I see smaller schools just getting cannibalized for a year or two until the coaches start complaining and rules get changed.

They have to sign a form saying they didn't have any direct or indirect contact with their new school prior to entering the portal.

I'm sure it's as effective as a mesh condom
