Ravi on: Our Current Program Status

Ravi said it a little differently than I would, but the thing is, everyone is getting the same Husker experience. We'll all get the exact same number of wins, losses, transfers, and everything else.

You can make your case for whatever you think should happen, but ultimately when certain things are already 100% determined (like Rhule being here for a while), it's up to you if you choose to complain or enjoy what you can.

Even as a charter HES member, I know there are warts, but I'll have a better time watching the team than someone who chooses to only obsess about the negatives. And we'll arrive at the same destination with some of us having found ways to enjoy the ride and some not.

I don't think it's 99% but here's something that is absolutely true.

As a whole, people willing to put in the time to post on message boards are MUCH MUCH quicker to be "out" on a coach. I'd be willing to bet if you surveyed everyone in the state that claimed to be a Husker fan and asked if Frost should have been given more time, 50% would have said yes. On a message board it's near 0% (I would hope).

But those of us on these message boards tend to think that the amount of negative posting we see here is representative of fans as a whole. It's just not.

It's probably representative of time and energy invested, but it's a reality.

I would bet at this moment, Rhule has an 80%+ approval rating across Nebraska. Here, not so much....maybe 40%?

Whether you like Ravi or not…I do appreciate him…this is really well put.

Worth listening to!

AND I think we know the answer to his last question with many here.

Problem is the group that bitches about everything is never going to do something different.

Keep him, fire him, doesn’t matter.

The next guy will be as big a problem to them

I've done the message board thing for about a decade now and the thing I've found is if I post something that I think needs to be improved, let's just say the coordinator hiring that has been iffy at best from Rhule, you then find someone that disagrees and it turns into a back and forth where defending your initial stance/comment makes it look like you're out on them.

It's a slippery slope on these things. Got bant from one back in 2021 when I told people that Frost had a lot of things he needed to get better at in a hurry on and off the field because people kind of were going down the same path. People had the same narrative too... "you have no idea how bad it was when we got here" and other similar things.

I pretty much agree with Ravi. Even though I wasn't one of these people, most of the fans were worried about what we would do when/if Rhule left to Penn State. Then 45 days later people are almost hoping he would have gotten the job. I suppose that will happen when you don't get to expectations.

100% this is a thing. Differing opinions get translated to their extremes and then categorized as such. But not to be confused with the countless half sentence posts that are just a complaint. For example, “would be nice if we had a DL coach right now.” No fucking shit.

The debate is what all these places are for. The pessimistic drivel can GTFO as it does nothing but incite and clutter.

Take you and I and our pages of debates… I hope my side hasn’t come off as intolerant of your positions. You don’t make a message without it being thoughtful, which I appreciate. But we tend to always look at the situation from a different angle.

That said, of course I wished everyone would just be optimistic because that energy is so much better, but that’s not a reality. And I try to remind myself of that more often.

I know the board you’re talking about and will say I think you got unfairly rolled in with a group that was always pissing in every thread and negative about everything. They’d take a post of yours and run with it and well, the rest is history. I rarely agree with everyone’s opinions, but most of your takes were pretty close to mine, so I thought that whole deal was bullshit.

On Rhule, I’m still hopeful but concerned. I don’t know how we could be here with turnover on staff and less than the desired results in ’25 and NOT be concerned. That’s not ‘OUT’, but I need something in ’26 to keep me from slipping into that category.

That board was something... everyone got mad that no one said anything about what was going on with Frost until after he was fired. I always point to I got banned from a board for bringing attention to it.

Anyway, Rhule has gotten us to two straight bowls when we hadn't been to one since 2016. That's progress in every sense of the word. But he needs to get better at some things. His hires have been shaky. They went on a streak of just getting track guys that they could teach football and only one of those 4 guys is still here and hasn't played. In game management has been a bit off.

But as stated above, we wouldn't have the two seasons we just did if not for some positives. Before Rhule got here we would have absolutely found ways to lose the Maryland and Michigan State games. His coordinator hire turned our RB into an All-American. Things like that.

It sure was. Certain dipshits could do literally anything and I’d get suspended for epically dumb shit. I bailed in ’24.

You can’t look at the last two years and not see positives, unless you’re in the group that it black and white. Championships or garbage. There are a couple of here. I’m fine with reasonable criticism of the things you mentioned. Questionable coaching hires that didn’t pan out. Player evaluation, though I’m not as critical of that as some are and yes, the in game stuff has been some good and some that looks like we’re trying to be something we’re not. I get the mentality. Expectations have to be set, but we need to clean some things up there. With either of our previous two staffs, I could easily see 5 or fewer wins in both ’24 and ’25. That’s better. No we didn’t have a breakout year like he’s had in year three at Temple and Baylor, but the situation is different across the board.

’26 will be tough. He could do a much better job, as could the entire staff, and they could have another 7-5 year. That’s going to go over like a turd in a punch bowl.

Finally, a nice string of good conversation and debate in this thread and not just useless bitching.

I’m willing to be more patient with Rhule because making postseason play the last two years is a big deal. Under Frost, by year three we had three straight losing seasons—and yet he still had plenty of defenders. Rhule walked into a much worse situation than many want to believe. Has the progress been “good enough” for everyone? No, and I’m disappointed too. But it’s still progress, and that matters.

Patience isn’t popular these days because everyone wants instant gratification, but sometimes it pays off. I felt the same way about Hoiberg—I feel like I was one of the few on this board who wanted to give him time to figure things out after leaving college for the NBA and then coming back. Different situation, sure, but the principle is the same: sometimes you have to let a guy work through it.

With the recruiting class we have lined up for 2027, is blowing up the program really worth the risk? Do we want to start over and jeopardize that momentum—or would a little patience and letting things play out be the smarter move?

Huskermax always felt to me like the place where baby boomers go to talk about what they heard on the radio

Well said.

Outside of being a significant booster what you do isn't going to change anything. You can imagine it matters that you give up your season ticket but someone else will buy it. Something will be done before season tickets are actually affected.

If you want to be positive great. If you want to be negative that's also fine. It's basically life. There's people that enjoy life and there's people that focus on what's wrong with it.
