Question for the pro Frost guys?

Just when I believe there isn’t any more bottom…there is.

He will get another year. I just don’t think I can support much more

I think a fairly important question that a lot of people are skimming over is, “can we afford to fire Frost and Co this year and bring in a top tier coach?” We have a lot of money, but a lot is tied up in the new facilities and at some point, buyouts and expensive salaries will start to bite you (ie. FSU).

Also, I know we’ve given Frost quite a bit of time, but every coach knows he had a long runway promised coming in. Will other coaches believe our word that we’ll give them time if we fire Frost after 4 years? Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. But I think these are two important questions to consider.

One booster paid off Taggart’s contract. It likely comes down to something like that if Frost is actually fired.

Personally don’t care either way anymore. Can’t do what we’ve done against the top 10 teams, then lay an absolute egg, and call it “progress”. Progress would have been winning by 14+ today. Just cant defend it anymore.

lost quite a bit of respect on that 4th down play call. Don’t talk about being tough then call a play that basically sets you back 4 yards to even start. Just a sad fuckin deal

Money is drying up as we speak. Think they can keep raising money for the new facilities if we keep Frost around? Think the sellout streak will continue?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the buyout will be lower than $20 million if we choose to move on. NCAA violations investigation is pending and who knows what else will come to light. It will be lower than what is expected.

That NCAA violations investigation is a joke. Doesn't even touch the buyout.

I don't think the extra 5 million is the determining factor of keeping him another year though.

can we afford not to?

that's a serious question we need to ask. If bringing Frost back means an 80% full stadium and the boosters start drying up then it costs us money to bring him back. Plus, it's not like we save the full $20 million giving him another year. When we're having this conversation a year from now the buyout will still be $15 million

if you think 4 years isn't enough time, find me one example of a coach at a P5 program (not counting traditional bottom-dwellers) that had 4 losing seasons and got a 5th year

I'll believe the 80% full when I see it. As long as we're in games people will show up.

Hell, they had to do package deals and have donors buy tickets for a poor kids to sell them all this year. If Frost doesn’t get six wins and comes back next year, they might have to do a buy 1 game, get get 6 games free to sell them all next year.

They may have trouble selling out completely but that's a long ways from 80%.

It isn't.

The other one I can't stand is the who will we hire? Jesus fuck. We will pay the next guy 6 mil+ if he justifies it. That is more than all but 1 pac 12 coach iirc. You will have any fucking resource you want including a top tier facility coming. You will be at a blue blood school. The roster is night and day better than it was 4 years ago. It is frankly a very appealing job iyam.

Bottom line is Frost the problem or the solution?

Prior to Today I was thinking he was trending toward the solution and the problem was on his staff.

Today's team struck me as a team that was beat up, tired and needed the bye to get better.

I'm at bare minimum Austin needs to go. You simply can't do what happened at Michigan state and keep your job. You can't take 6 some odd weeks to find your best OL combination twice in four years.

I also think you invest in a full time special teams coach. Now I think that likely means moving Mario to an analyst role and hiring Busch full time. Make him special teams, recruiting and associate HC or some bull shit.

You could convince me either way on Held and Matt. I lean more towards keeping them, but wouldn't be sad if they left.

I have given Frost along rope because the one spot that is most critical was the spot that was most depleted and takes the longest to rebuild. That is the OL. If you don't have a good OL days like today will happen. A good OL erases the fact your QB doesn't have his fast ball and has a bad wheel.

I think we have witnessed some micro improvements here and there on the team.

I skipped over a few of the latest in this thread, but I'm with @Jim14510 on this. Win every game ever, and I'm happy.

I can have opinions on coaches, ADs, strength training, recruiting, or whatever else, but ultimately, I don't gain that much by bitching and sharing all of my opinions, popular among the imaginary friends on message boards or not.

Turd, Ronnie, and Walter "Ted" don't read this board, or give two shits about my shitty opinions, as sad as that may be.

Is that why we post here? Because we think people give a shit about what we think…?

I just figured it was better than shouting into the void.

Just shout into any void you can find, my man. Unless it upsets your dogs like it does when I shout into what I thought was a void.

In the case shouting upsets your dogs, I recommend being stoic like TO so the dogs don't freak out, curling up in a corner, and crying/sniffling to yourself. Your dogs will appreciate it for the snuggle time. I know from experience.
