New Commit QB Commit - Torres is N

Clear from his highlights that he has maybe the worst supporting cast you'll ever see from a HS football team and an absolutely massive arm. Not coming in as a finished product by any means, but that also means a lot of room to grow. Lot of similarities to Haarberg IMO.
Haarberg is a WAY better athlete, but pretty similar arm talent.

I watched his highlight film a while ago. It's almost nothing but clips of him backing up a mile and bombing it. I'm sure a lot of that was simply due to the quality of the O-line he played behind, but I'd still like to see some pocket presence and at least a few short to medium range touch passes. Definitely feels like another 'take a natural athlete and try to teach him to play football' kind of recruit to me.

Edit for 247's comments:

"Richard Torres showed one of the biggest arms at the camp. Torres and (No. 1 overall five-star Quinn) Ewers were the only quarterbacks who beat a stiff wind on multiple downfield shots. Torres is raw but big-framed and athletic, with a background in basketball as well, and his upside makes him particularly intriguing."

Translation: a project QB.

Sounds definitely like a project...perhaps no one else really wanted him at QB but us. I hope it works out. I'm sure Super Mario will get him right.

TBF, seems like we passed on MJ Morris for this guy. No doubt he's a project. Lot of tools though and a lot higher ceiling passer than we have often had around here.

Fuck it. I'm excited by this. Let's welcome the guy and turn him loose to help the corches with their crootin' for the remainder of the cycle.

I wouldn’t put much stock in rankings this yr. The only prospects with high rankings are those who played extensively as sophomores & were in the camp circuit
Recruiting service data from last season is incomplete.
Players from shitty teams tend to get ignored unless you’re a camp warrior
He’s on a shitty team that hasn’t had a D1 recruit since the 70s
Has a big arm with a quick release & shows athleticism on the basketball court. He’s a good take. If he can read a defense & make quick decisions, the staff will look like geniuses.

When Deab says this..."Spots are very limited in the Huskers 2022 recruiting class, so you get the sense a lot more pieces are going to move over this next week."

There are 4 commits so far...wtf is he talking about limited?

We might only have room for 14. Might have room for 18. Might have room for 25ish. No one knows.

Offer lists rarely lie (except in the positive direction since kids can claim anything). This is especially true in recruiting hotbeds. How many flyers do we need to take before we learn a lesson?

There's lots of recruiting hotbeds in Texas, but San Antonio isn't really one of them. Torres is the #1 recruit from San Antonio, and there's no one else in Texas's top 200 from SA.
