Sources: Purdue making a change at offensive line coach

Missouri offensive line coach Marcus Johnson is expected to take the same role at Purdue, sources told FootballScoop.

Purdue is expected to hire Marcus Johnson as its offensive line coach, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Friday. Chris Hummer of 247Sports first Johnson joining the staff.

Sources say Johnson will take over for Matt Mattox, who joined the program in January after three seasons at UTSA. Expect Purdue to address Mattox's status with the program in the days to come.

Johnson joined Eliah Drinkwitz's staff in 2020 and was promoted to assistant head coach and run game coordinator in 2021. The former Ole Miss Rebel also brings offensive line coaching experience at Mississippi State and Duke.

An All-SEC lineman himself, Johnson coached two All-SEC linemen in his time at Missouri and Mississippi State, and his group paved the way for State running back Kylin Hill's All-SEC season in 2019.

Johnson will assist a revamped Boilermakers offensive staff led by new head coach Ryan Walters.
Walters hired Graham Harrell away from West Virginia to serve as offensive coordinator. Cory Patterson joined Walters from Illinois as associate head coach and wide receivers coach. Lamar Conard returned to his alma mater from Miami (Ohio) as running backs coach, and Seth Doege -- like Harrell, a former Texas Tech quarterback -- joined as tight ends coach, the same role he held under Harrell at USC.
