PSA: FCS Champeenship is on now (ABC)

Remember when Caden Johnson was an NFL guy because he was tearing up fcs and then he was a udfa? Pepperidge Farm remembers

Not really, but I remember watching Dallas Goedert doing pretty well in the league.

Also, just realized that kid that works in the Casey's kitchen in Brookings that I shoot the shit with regularly is the SDSU place kicker from Omaha. Gotta feel for him after missing a pair today.

That's rough.

throw him a $10 tip next time you get a breakfast pizza

"Tough luck, get drunk on me."

That's a good idea.

I didn't even know he was on the football team or from Omaha until one of his classmates congratulated him on winning last week's game.

does he have eligibility left?

if yes, we can use the $10 tip to blackmail him into working with us to throw a future big game with missed kicks (also give him more $, carrot and stick)

I'll preface this with my kid was a freshman B teamer. He really enjoys lifting and working out though. I don't have misconceptions that he'll be starting at prep someday and I don't think he does either. He's definitely going to play next year but who knows beyond that.

Having said all that is it worth it or is it a waste of money unless you're seriously looking for the edge to play at the next level?
Long answer but I want to give my honest thoughts. Yes, I believe it’s worth it. Based on your financial situation, at the very minimum it is an opportunity to get really good coaching and learn how to work really hard to be a good athlete and just figure out what overall work ethic, and consistent work ethic over a lifting cycle looks like. And if football and just that dedicated grind is something he doesn’t wanna do in the long run, he will figure that aspect out as well.

If he does enjoy working out and doing field drills and things like that then yes he’ll love it because that’s basically what it is.

The program is built for football players as it’s a dumbed down version of Boyd Epley’s Husker Power program, so your son will get a taste of real deal football training for about 2 months.

I honestly don’t know what high school programs look like anymore but I’ll always recommend X Edge to any athlete. Whenever my daughter is of age and seriously wanting to play sports, I’ll send her to Gib. Side note, I don’t remember what it costs for a camp, but I know it wasn’t a bank breaker or anything. Their summer stuff is much more extensive too. Normally it’s 90 minute training sessions but in summer they get a full 2 hours

Was thinking about doing it last summer but blew it off. He wants to get up and go to weights at 6:30 am MWF this summer and he's also voluntarily taking Geometry because he's a huge dork. This sounds more productive and maybe I can avoid getting up at 6:00 3 days a week.

You could also go the bicycle/bus pass route, but I don't think that's as popular for parents these days as it was in the 70's and 80's.

Smarter than me. I got a C in forced Geometry cause me and my friends were dickin around trying to flirt with the hot girls in class.

yeah so assuming the set up is still the same they have 3 sessions in the summer: 6, 9, and 5. 9 AM is kinda that “cool kid’s group” and I wouldn’t be shocked if some of his team mates actually ended up in that 9 AM class if you asked him about it. Ya know make the decision that best works for your son and family but there is something to be said about building that team chemistry in summer weights at the high school. But, I also of some high school kids that lifted at school in the morning then did X Edge at the 5 PM group a couple times a week. That’s where nutrition and good choices with sleep come into play.

Would probably go that route. Weights in the morning a couple days a week and x edge a couple days a week. He wouldn't be able to do the 6 or 9 because his class is 8-11.

I know they used to do a discount where you did like a ratio of 2 days a week at X Edge and the rest at high school to make it work, but not sure what the deals are now. I’m sure it’s still close. I know you can only do so much for a high school kid with nutrition and sleep but if you guys can find a way to make that somewhat a priority with all that activity then he’ll be just fine. X Edge does also do a day at the beginning of every camp going over Dave Ellis’s nutrition teachings so that’s a good thing as well
