I used to think Sipple would just say some off the wall stuff like that and just think he had weird take...but I can still respect that if he believed it. While that option is definitely still possible, the last couple years I'm starting to think he's pretty intentional when he does stuff that. He's basically the programs hype man now ...imo.

It always feels like a weird little balancing act he plays. You can tell he’s probably the most connected with the coaching staff so you can get a few good inside nuggets reading between his blurry lines but it’s like he threw his credibility to the wind in order to maintain that.

We usually try for Friday’s. I probably won’t have anything substantial this Friday as it will have only been 2 formal practices and I’ve got a lot going on with work and building Waterboy’s sister in law her dream home.

Just a couple things from this morning:

-Alante Brown is acting like a leader in the WR room. Puts himself out there and steps up first in drills. More vocal. Very focused. He could be a surprise starter this year, or at least firmly entrenched on the two deep. I remember Waterboy being impressed with him at the beginning of fall camp last year and then he faded to no man’s land as the season progressed, so who knows if he will materialize.

-Asked Waterboy if he notices and tension with Thompson. He said he doesn’t notice anything.

-Ochaun should be a good player but don’t expect him to be a 15+ sack, Nagurski award finalist. He didn’t stand out physically or in drills. Don’t get me wrong, he’ll help. But don’t expect him to be the next Randy Gregory or you’ll be disappointed.

-Steph Wynn stood out. There’s a reason he was at Alabama, even though he didn’t get in much.

Edit: Also, linebackers are the unmistakable leaders of this team. Waterboy has a feeling they will be THE unmistakable strength of the team this year.

In my opinion, Mathis is going to struggle with the adjustment from the Big 12 to the Big 10. He’s physically gifted enough to make that jump, but make no mistake; that hill is steep.

I’m looking for 20 sacks between Mathis, Tanner, and Nelson. If you can get to that number you’re in good shape. The problem is here that Nelson is about the only one I feel comfortable projecting improvement from a numbers standpoint. Tannor played well at the end of last year; but we tend to get caught up in taking a two game sample size from the previous year and projecting said player to be that way for the whole of the following year. It generally never works out like that.

It may just be the fact that if Mathis can be formidable teams can't focus on just one pass rusher when Nebraska only send 4 guys. I think Tannor is all right. I think Nelson is a good player.

Nelson, Henrich, Tannor are all guys that you look at and go "this is what a development program player should look like in year 3/4" The problem is that they seem to be the exception and not the rule.

That's dumb
I tried to think it out and why he would think that.... I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt here, but outside your 1 tech I think we should have a solid group on the DL and better than last year.

DL
is Mathis this year better than Payne last year? (Yes)
did your other edge players get better? (Yes)
Is Ty and Drew the same or better than Ty and Casey? (I think similar at worst)
How do you replace Stille? (While reliable wasn't overly talented.)
Is Wynn and Nash better than Daniels? (I am going to wait on this one)

OL
I have many more concerns.
Is Teddy 100%? Is he rushing it? (I hope he is)
How does Turner transition to OG? (I think he will be fine and is better long term)
How does Hixs hold up in the run game?
Bando has some experience, but how does he transition to being the guy here?
Benhart can you lock down that right side?

Who the FUCK is our center? Is this assuming Hixson? Hate that...Would rather see Turner go there to be honest.

Everything I have been told is that it is Hixson.

I really liked the idea of him and Teddy side by side.
Well, shit.

Do we have any info on Lutovsky - have thought he's a guy that could pop off at any time. If we are repping guys at multiple positions to find our best 5 - is he a top 7 and in the discussion?

Let’s say Teddy is 100% and Turner is a better fit at guard. We still have 60% of our line that has either str8 up sucked or is completely unproven - at best I think we have an average OL which would be a major upgrade. At worst we have one of if not the worst OLs in the conference. I think the OL play will dictate how this season goes…

Well, shit.

I don't think he is an answer this year. We need to get away from having RS Freshmen being the answer on the OL. Not saying they cant play at all, but they need to be the exception not the rule.

One play from the spring game, but this is basic shit that drives me nuts.

You are backside on a run. You need to know, I cannot let him beat me to my left. I have help behind me so I can be extra aggressive in cutting him off. If he goes behind me he isn't making the play and after I pass him off I get to 2nd level.

Like this shit isn't physical this is mental. As an OL you need to understand angles and where you can and cannot miss.

on sure passing downs, i'd like to see tannor, mathis and nelson getting after the passer. add in henrich or Reimer in the four-man rush. we have to be able to get after the QB with a 4 man rush this year. such a massive advantage not bringing someone out of coverage to blitz all the time.
