Practice nuggets

Did you copy this statement from the previous four years?

We usually try for Friday’s. I probably won’t have anything substantial this Friday as it will have only been 2 formal practices and I’ve got a lot going on with work and building Waterboy’s sister in law her dream home.

Just a couple things from this morning:

-Alante Brown is acting like a leader in the WR room. Puts himself out there and steps up first in drills. More vocal. Very focused. He could be a surprise starter this year, or at least firmly entrenched on the two deep. I remember Waterboy being impressed with him at the beginning of fall camp last year and then he faded to no man’s land as the season progressed, so who knows if he will materialize.

-Asked Waterboy if he notices and tension with Thompson. He said he doesn’t notice anything.

-Ochaun should be a good player but don’t expect him to be a 15+ sack, Nagurski award finalist. He didn’t stand out physically or in drills. Don’t get me wrong, he’ll help. But don’t expect him to be the next Randy Gregory or you’ll be disappointed.

-Steph Wynn stood out. There’s a reason he was at Alabama, even though he didn’t get in much.

Edit: Also, linebackers are the unmistakable leaders of this team. Waterboy has a feeling they will be THE unmistakable strength of the team this year.

Here's a real nugget:

Alante Brown is a great kid. But will never be a factor. Everyone in the know.... knows.
You can tell he is well liked by the coaches, but hearing Mickey saying "he is struggling with the adjustment from QB to WR..." That just came off as I like the kid, but I need more talent here.
I think a lot of folks thought he was gonna take a year or two to get going. Not three or four or five. At any rate, he’s poised to be a steady presence in the WR rotation if no young guys step up.
