Long story short, we buried my 99 year old grandmother today. Not looking for sympathy as it’s just one of those things that you expect to happen whenever.

My point is more - it’s truly incredible the life and events our grandparents/great grandparents went through. I was doing some researching into it all and I just could imagine - dust bowl, roaring 30s, two world wars, sending your husbands/kids to war, putting a man on the moon to all of the technology advancements. I could imagine telling her about AI when she didn’t even have running water in their house when she was born.

Outside of COVID-19 & the war in Iraq, my generation (30s) haven’t really experienced much.

The Great Depression, followed by WWII was the lead story in their lives. I spoke to my Dad about both of them frequently, and we just laid him to rest last December. He made it to 96. Helluva run for both of them, and I hope they're both resting in the arms of the Lord for eternity.

I respect the hell out of this story, but if your grandmother was 99 years-old, she did NOT live through 2 World Wars. The First World War ended in 1918.

My 95 yo grandparents moved to town last year so have had time to talk to them quite a bit more than before. Has been interesting. Grandpa had several jobs. Most interesting was working for the FDA (no DEA back then) as an undercover drug dealer in Chicago busting truck drivers transporting drugs for the mob.

OP, sorry to hear about your loss. RIP to your grandmother, 99 years is a hell of a long run, and I am sure a life full of many, many experiences. Good thoughts and prayers to you and your family, Husker brother.

Not as much in world events but the technological advances in the last 40 years is incredible. By the time you're 99 you'll probably be able to tell your grandkids about cars that drove on the ground.

Would the youth today storm the beaches of Normandy ?
