On3 Buys Rivals

people on InsideNebraska or HOL will be able to read everything in both networks, including message boards on both sites, with one subscription but will only be able to post on the board they subscribe to

Hmm. Wonder why they're letting Georgia post on both boards but not Nebraska. Must have been a decision by the local staffs.

It said it was contractual. I don't know if that was a provision in Zack's contract or Callahan's but given this is the only market with this situation, I'd bet it was in Callahan's. I am guessing when he was enticed away by Shannon he knew the vision of the future included acquisition at some point and he didn't want non-subscribers on his board. Or maybe he had a provision preventing a second site and this is a settlement of that until Zack's contract runs out. Just guessing (except it seems very likely it arose from Callahan's deal in some way).

You mean Sean is fucking everyone else over for his own benefit? I'm shocked.

Soooo by "giving" Rivals the high school recruiting beat when high school recruiting has never mattered less, they are basically just putting it out to pasture, right? Damn shame.

Not really. They bought Rivals and are integrating Rivals into On 3. They believe the Rivals brand, which they now own, has value within the HS recruiting space. They are not putting it out to pasture. They are deploying it where they think it has the most value. I think Terry has said the plan is to use that platform to expand into HS sports coverage. He thinks there is money to be made in HS sports coverage.

Will miss Zach if he leaves Nebraska. Good dude.

I think it's recognizing that Rivals still has more brand recognition in recuriting coverage than On3.
The way I see it, Rivals is getting the sweet end of the deal. While high school recruiting is less important because of the portal, I think it is still a draw for subscribers. People are going to stay with On3 for NIL coverage?
Not that the way they split it up matters a whole lot since subscribers will have access to both.

Yeah I was never dialed into recruiting, other than seeing headlines and checking in on signing day to see who we got, but now my interest in HS recruiting is 0 haha. Maybe other people still follow it enough to be a moneymaker though?

I still don't understand what "NIL Coverage" is.

Serious comment: it must be coverage of the 3rd party "true" NIL deals players will get, what is and isn't approved by Deloitte, comparable, etc. If the schools adopt principles consistent with House (even if House is not finalized), NIL will exist and these items will all be worthy of some news coverage. If House isn't adopted, there will be NIL, but the coverage will be more along the lines of covering the wild wild west

maybe, but will the Deloitte process be public knowledge? I'd assume that would be private information.

NIL Coverage = At least to me is nothing more than spreading rumors and guesses
