“Haha that city sucks cuz it’s just a bunch of chain restaurants, shitty infrastructure and nothing but white people suburbia.”

PS: compare both to similar sized cities in the region.

Omaha > Wichita, Des Moines or Springfield MO

Lincoln > Topeka, Cedar Rapids/Cockeye City or Columbia/Jeff City

I hate when people compare Lincoln and Omaha to cities that have more people than the entire state of Nebraska.
(Ex: Austin/Denver/KC/etc.)

I can’t believe you made me stick up for Swimtown and Lincoln.
Fuck you for making me do that.

308 >>>> those shitholes

Springfield is smaller than Lincoln, so is Columbia and Jeff city. You'd have to combine all 3 to even get close to Lincolns population. I get the point you're making and don't disagree, just not great comps in my opinion.

I'm with you on the 308. Move outside of both cities and call it good. I grew up an hour south of Lincoln across the border. I'd take the sticks over either (any) city.

it’s amazing how often this article has felt relevant on this board:

Ha ha - how true.

Having grown up in a tiny town and now in Omaha, I find this hilarious.

If you're still in Lincoln after college sorry, but you're a dweeb. Lincoln is a college town. And its infrastructure is a joke. Anyone calling Omaha mini-Chicago is probably from western Nebraska or has never actually been to Chicago.

Right. People forget that Omaha is about 1/10th the size of Chicago, about 1/3 the size of Denver, etc., etc., etc.

People in Nebraska think it's this huge city. The hate in Nebraska would really be strong if Omaha was 5 million people.

When I say “Springfield” I’m including Nixa/Ozark/etc. the metro area of Springfield is over 400,000.

I used Jeff City/Columbia as a combined example because they are so close (20 mins drive) to each other and the capital + college town.

As an aside it always amazes me when I go to neighboring states that they didn’t put their flagship University or land grant university in their capital city. Examples: Topeka would be so much better if KU or KSU were there. Jeff City would be so much better if MU was there. Des Moines would be better if ISU was there. (Only ISU tho cuz fuck Cockeye) Pierre SD would be better if USD or SDSU were there. Cheyenne would be better if UW was there.

Having lived in Topeka, Lawrence, and Columbia, I agree with this 100%. Topeka can't hold a candle to Lawrence as far as being a "nice" town. But then again Lawrence is basically one big "suburban" town. Lots of commuters to KC/Topeka and tons of families there. Still a great town that I prefer over Columbia.
