OL

That's one of the saddest things I've ever seen on a football field. It's so bad, it's like when 2 guards pull at the same time when one isn't supposed to and coconut.

But they've got to try something different. Anthony was abused, Cork is awful. Go Banks, Piper, Hixon, Luto & Cork or Benhardt. I don't know, they don't have a lot of options, because this shit is awful.
I'm honestly shocked we didn't see Banks.

It’s so bad. They should move Banks to LT and Cork over to RT.

Anthony was laughably bad last night.

The rage I feel watching the OL play is indescribable

We need to slow way the fuck down with OL in the future. An indictment of the Frost era:

We anointed freshman Corcoran a solid starter because he made one appearance against a garbage Rutgers at the end of the COVID year when our starter quit to prepare for the NFL draft. He has done nothing but suck since then. He clearly wasn't ready, but everyone raved about him based off that one performance and what do you know?..... last year he was one of the statistically worst OTs in the Big 10........kind of like...... Benhart.

Benhart was thrown in as a freshman as well. He has since developed into that giant glob of shit we see out there now. Despite his high recruiting ranking and all of the starts under his belt he was, along with "Corco-for Coco Puffs", one of the bottom performing OTs in the Big 10 last year.

Shall I continue? In somewhat of a miracle we successfully switched Cam Jurgens from TE to C and threw him right into the starting lineup despite him having missed some spring and summer with a bum foot that followed him missing most of his true freshman year with injury. He splatter snapped the ball around like a rhinoceros shits and we lost games because of it. He then put in a good year with less splattering and somehow ended up in the fucking NFL so that meant we knew what we were doing and should continue with our bullshit philosophy.

And we did continue. Our OTs sucked so bad last year that we turned to true freshman Teddy P. Our idea must have been who gives a fuck if his body is ready to go against grizzled Big 10 veterans let's feed him to the wolves. Of course he suffers a season ending injury. Then this year rolls around and who do we turn to? Teddy. Nevermind that he didn't even get 1 year to develop before being injured, didn't play in the spring and was limited for part of the summer let's roll the dice. And guess what, he sucked. No surprise there. Now injured again.

Counter point: Broc Bando is a 6th year senior and sucks too so we are bad at letting guys mature as well. Fuck me, right?

I just can't anymore.....

The problem is we don't have anyone any better. The failure was multiple years of failed oline recruiting starting in about 2014.

What difference does it make to keep Raiola as OL coach? I know he has only been a few months on the job, and he didn't recruit any OL athletes.

Fire him and have Frank Verducci become the OC. He has been an OC before, so he has some experience.

How much worse would the OL be? How many more games would be won? 1-2 max? And with Whipple rumored to step down due to health concerns, maybe it would make sense to do this now.

This also goes to show you that you should never believe the shit they tell you in the off season (we had a huge thread dedicated to it) because these guys (the players) were selling all sorts of shit about Raiola and how they were "firing off the ball" now....and every other cliche boilerplate bullshit footballism.

So much of what soooo many players and coaches said were just straight up nonsense.

Tommi Hill is an NFL CB.
Rahmir Johnson is an integral part of the team.
We are gonna generate a ton of pressure off the edge.
The edge guys are gonna dominate.

On and on and on......

I'm a little upset this fine Monday.

Yeah. Just Frost years, following on Cavs meh crootin

2018: 1 OL
2019: 5 OL
2020: 2 OL
2021: 3 OL
2022: 1 OL (I guess whatever Jenkins is plays OL)

They would have had to hit on 5/8 OL who they brought into the program in the first 3 years to have a good line right now. But for context in 2021-22, they legit have 3:OL who are still on campus and that's it. I don't even think @Black Dean after a 30 rack of Busch light would think that roster construction is a good idea

I got bored and basically quit following recruiting once Frost got hired. From the look of things, Frost basically didn't recruit shit for OL when looking at things. For the 2015 class when Riley took over, he scrambled to sign, Decker, Gaylord, and Barnett (bust). I believe Decker and Gaylord were committed to Bo before he was fired anyway.

The 2016 class had Raridon, Farniok, Brokop, Boe Wilson.

2017 had Sichterman (bust), Broc Bando, Chris Walker (bust), Brenden Jaimes who was maybe the last descent OL on this team who left for the draft early.

Scott's 2018 Class:
Will Farniok (transferred), Canty, and Jurgens,

2019 Class:
Benhart, Lynn, Banks, Anderson, Piper (actually cruited as a DT), Fritsche,

2020 Class:
Corcoran, Conn, Nouili (xfer from Colorado State),

2021:
Teddy P, Lutovsky, Yager,

2022:
Jenkins, Portal guys: Kevin Williams, Hunter Anthony,

Source: https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Season/2022-Football/Commits/

From looking at things, it's pretty obvious that OL recruiting has been possibly worse under Frost than Riley. As much crap we talked about Barney Cotton, he at least developed descent OL compared to anything that was ever developed under Frost.

I can’t stop laughing at this. One because it’s so well written. And two because it’s all sadly true.

I know @Faux Sean Callahan isn't a fan of Zatechka on podcasts and radio, but I do enjoy listening to him. He dropped a couple nugs on Sharp this morning that I thought were interesting.

1. Said Frost essentially recruited lineman who fit a certain size that they wanted, instead of actually recruiting guys who could simply play football. So the question was, can these guys that signed, and we're now seeing play, actually play at this level?

2. Told Isaac that he was essentially too short to play the interior line, and now we have the dog shit product we have out there right now. And that is all Frost's OLineman. Of course mentioned that was puzzling because Frost's national title winning lineman were made up of guys 6'1"-6'5", and now guys that size are too short to play college football.

3. Said that size that the former staff wanted is basically the same as a tree, and they've turned out completely non athletic.

Still listening

Honestly sounds like he is pissed off that Isaac went to Mizzou and Frost didnt take him.

Isaac isn't in Mizzou's 3 deep and didn't have any other good offers. Frost probably should have taken him as a PWO just to avoid the bad PR in the Omaha area.

But we have Pieper on this roster who is listed at 6'2" as a scholarship guy. Isaac is listed at 6'3". Do we really think the only reason he wasn't pursued was his size?

Now I do agree they sacrificed athleticism for some size, but I don't think that is the hill I would die on as to what the problem was/is. It comes down to development and having your offensive staff going in the same direction. You never knew what the end product was supposed to look like under Frost. You had a playbook that wasn't consistent with what talent you had/didn't.

Are people still acting like Isaac was a worthwhile recruit? Or just his family?

You know who we need...?

A coach who's acting kinda jealous of the guy who currently holds the job that he got fired from?

Shoot nothing ever looked like it was supposed to under Frost.
2018 we're running a watered down version of the Oregon Spread
2019 we're running the Wandale Robinson show
2020 we can't hit a pass outside of 14 yards and turn to a receiver as QB
2021 is the year of holy shit how did that happen and quite a bit of option play

With all the details involved in a day to day football operation, I do agree that a never quite clear end goal of daily execution di not work well for really anyone involved.

I 100% thought that Isaac would be Cam's heir to the throne. But, for all I know, would the coaching be even any good knowing what we know now? Probably not
