Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (7-11) - We suck again

Picked off 2B. Fucking catcher picked.

Back to back doubles to open an inning, 0 runs scored.

0 bunt attempts from our LHH with a 3B playing in the dirt and towards SS.

Picked off 1B to end the game, with Sanderson up. Tie run too.

Our offense has limited room for error, and they just can't get out of their own way.

Gosh damn, this isn't expected from an experienced offensive team.

Yes to all of this.

We made our own bad luck and we mixed in some other hard hit balls that simply couldn’t find the ground.

Frustrating evening as I thought we had many more chances than they did.

Wasted another solid outing by Walsh.

For those who weren’t watching and thinking me yelling at an official is just me being me…

This was the 3-2 pitch to Frost. Runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.

It was objectively incorrect for Frost to swing at this clear ball.

I shut it off after we didn’t get any runs in the 8th. Holy shit was the ump just ready to call it a night or what? Did bolt say anything in his post game?

He wasn't asked about it nor did he bring it up.

0-9 with RISP is where we lost Friday night.
I havent looked it up, but it sure feels like that's been the story of the Bolt tenure. The bats seem to fall off with runners in scoring position, specifically during clutch moments.

The Huskers have likely played a tougher schedule than everyone else.

However….

The Huskers are dead last in the conference in:

BB
Slugging
OBP
OPS

Second to last in:

Hits
Runs
5th worst in strikeouts

You’ll never see me reference average here because I think it’s outdated for these levels. What I wanna know is who is getting on base and who is hitting the ball for extra bases.

Currently no statcast or Rapsodo data available to paint more of a clear picture.

I know we laughed at the Vanderbilt reporter referencing Statcast data in the game we beat them in. But honestly, a lot of the things Statcast gives us allows us to look at the metrics and tell you how sustainable or unsustainable certain player performance is.

For example, Dylan Carey barreled up 4 baseballs yesterday and had 1 hit for his trouble. If you look at the old stats you may think his night at the plate was bad. But the truth of the matter is he was just unlucky and I would circle him as a guy to go on a bit of a surge here over the next few games. Inversely, Nunez’s performance was a bit unsustainable and he’s starting to come back down to earth. He’s a good player, but I think he’ll regress to the mean over the next couple of games here.

For those of you who have played/coached/been involved with baseball, what are your thoughts on a team constantly changing their lineup? Is that normal? I understand our hitting sucks so far this year but do you think its better to constantly change your lineup or do you think its best to just keep the same lineup and let guys work through their hitting issues?

I was a leadoff guy, so it didn't impact me as much, but there is a comfortability in knowing the abilities/tendancies of the guys around you.

I don't love it. I usually like some consistency but maybe Will is just trying to find one he likes

It’s not that big of a deal. The biggest deal so far is that I’m seeing a team that’s behind the fastball but ahead of the offspeed. Very tough spot to be in. I’ll see if I can find Chipper Jones talking about this.

Ultimately, and to quote my high school baseball coach; You just have to get up there and refuse to get beat. And right now we got a lot of guys who seem to be so worried about getting beat that it paralyzes them.

Harvell might need to hit the road. This seems like a reoccurring thing with strikes out year over year

Let me preface this with a qualifying statement:

If OPS is up, strikeouts aren’t as big of a concern of mine.

But since OPS is the worst in the conference, strikeouts now are a huge concern of mine. And it’s becoming a staple of Husker baseball. Brice Matthews struck out an absurd amount, but it didn’t matter that much because he was going to hit 20 bombs.
