Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (4-6)

Unlike Fred, Bolt has won championships here. I’m in favor of canceling the Basketball program and giving all the freed up funding/NIL to Bolt and the baseball program. Need to get some quality pitching talent in there. We’ve got a couple of good arms but we need DEPTH
Nebraska basketball after this season has proven its an absolute money pit of loser ball, give the boys on the diamond some cash and we may turn a profit and actually win something.

Appreciate the level of detail you're giving us ITT.

I wasn’t able to watch the full game today. But I plan on doing this with any game I can watch.

Context in baseball matters. Announcers kept referencing some exit velo data and pitch velo. So I’m hoping we’ve got statcast data from these games. That will also help us tell how good or how bad things are at the moment.

There are a lot of intangibles in baseball that extended metrics and data has allowed us to make tangible. For example, it is not the same thing if a guy hits a ball 105 off the bat right to someone and the next guy hits it 60 MPH just in the right spot and gets a hit. So if we have some of this data it’ll tell us exactly where things are.

Well, I definitely appreciated it...good shit, man.

Lol I would love that but man the uproar would be insane hahaha

Preliminary dive into the numbers for Husker hitters (Only counting hitters with 20 or more plate appearances):

Team K rate - 25%
Team walk rate - 8%

I'm not a traditionalist when it comes to strikeouts. What that means is I am not as concerned about them as I once was. This does come with a caveat though which is walks need to also happen at a proportionate rate. The numbers tend to show that the farther into counts you get, the more you walk and the more you strike out. So not all strikeouts are created equal and the chances of you striking out tend to go up the deeper you work counts. But the chances of good things happening also tend to go up the deeper you get into counts.

Today, there were 11 strikeouts. Of those 11, only 3 of them were on more than 4 pitches.

The Huskers did not walk once today.

Translation - The Huskers are not seeing enough pitches.

I didn't pay attention this game, but I know other games have had a high number of strikeouts looking too, that is more bothersome to me.

I'd much rather someone take a hack and strikeout than just watch the damn pitch. If you have two strikes on you, anything close should get a swing.

We are supposed to play UNO tomorrow. That game will almost certainly get cancelled or move to another date.

Sounds like year ending

Man that seriously takes away some hope for the season. Damn simulation.
