Official 2024 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (40-22)

Sears seemed terrible last year (maybe I'm just remembering his bad outings though)

Now he's on the Golden Spikes watchlist

I agree with you. He was wild last year. He only pitched 17 innings and gave up 23 hits with a 5.29 ERA. I was talking with a friend and we're very shocked by his turnaround. He definitely figured something out during summer league last year.

Ya wild is a better adjective

He was throwing the ball all over the place

I don’t know that Sears sucked. But I will say he had an incredible summer. I don’t think it’s unfair to say how big of a jump he’s made was not something anyone was projecting. Good for him.

Fountain was never going to come to nebraska. That was almost a given.

as for Cam, my buddy who is one of his strength coach told me that nebraska gave him a great last pitch offer but idea of playing for vandy in the cws then going pro won out.

Nebraska was the first offer to Kozeal and it was a 100% allocation. It was the first time Bolt had offered a full baseball scholarship to a position only guy.

Vandy came in the picture very late in the process.

Childress effect

Childress didn't coach him last summer & that's when Sears got back on the horse as a starter. The difference is starter v reliever. Not everyone can make it work either way.

I had talked with Chad (his dad) during the 2023 season & he mentioned how Brett was struggling physically and mentally coming out of the pen & they were looking forward to summer ball. I think I posted about it in one of the threads, or it might have been in a DM conversation. Jeff (Christy) had Marcuzzo place him at Rockford since they were looking for another starter.
