Official 2024 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread (40-22)

14 K's offensively can't be brushed off to opening weekend. It's a continued trend under Harvell where we've averaged around 8.5 or so per season. And if we break it down to clutch hitting, our K ratio has been horrendous the last 2 seasons. Situational hitting has been an achilles heel the last 2 seasons but today Carey & Brumbaugh came thru. And as Stone Cold always says, "that's the bottom line." 3 different times we came thru against Friday arms, although I wasn't overly impressed with Baylors guys. I thought ours outshined theirs in every possible aspect.
K's can be such a hard stat because I don't personally mind Ks if you're swinging at good pitches. Today (and a lot of Harvell's tenure) was chasing bad. I especially hate strikeouts looking. It's such a tough balance.

One game doesn't mean anything but you're right, combined with past history it's something to be concerned about.

It's not like Baylor was trotting Trevor Bauer out there today.

In Shriners Classic news, Texas Tech has used 6 guys in relief. 4 of them are high leverage arms that likely won't be available against us Saturday. Quick start would be so nice against them!

Couple big upsets opening day:
St John's 9-5 over #2 Florida
Sam Houston State routes Oklahoma State

Cal beat #23 Kansas State 5-3

FGCU winning 9-5 over #5 TCU, B8

#23 UCLA puts up a 3 spot in B8 to beat Gonzaga 8-7
Miami walked off NJIT 11-10
#6 Vanderbilt walked off FAU 12-11

B1G teams went 9-4 Friday with Minnesota still playing. They're up 8-7 in the 12th against CSU Bakersfield.

Sam Houston State has become a solid baseball program, not sure that one was an upset as much as it is a solid win for their resume.

Crazy Vandy had to walk off, especially how they started off the game:

Pre-season #3 B12 losing to #4 CUSA is an upset, but I get your overall point. Regardless, it's all about the series.

Lead off strikes out, then Overbeek gets a single

Double play. To the bottom of the 1st we go

Walsh and company having a rough go if it in the first inning

That's just a tough freaking bounce. Don't see a lot of ground rule doubles off the bag at 3rd.

Not to mention the rocket off Dylan's bat for the double play.
