We always struggle against warm weather teams in February. Big Ten coaches (know more about the game than me) unanimously picked us to win the conference this year. I’m still not worried.

We have 52 games left to figure out pitching. We need to take 4 out of these 5 after today. Get to conference play .500 and we’re dancing

4 games this weekend against Northwestern State and UT Arlington. First game starts at 11am.

Huskers need to win 3 out of 4.

If we sweep this weekend and beat Kansas State on Tuesday we will be back to .500. We play home games the rest of the month + a game at Pickle Smoochers.

Northwestern State has largely relied on its pitching early on. Dave Van Horn’s former team took a game from Oklahoma and won a series with Stephen F. Austin, but enters the weekend 3-5 on the season, having dropped four-straight games. Larson Fontenot and Daunte Stewart are the only players in lineup hitting better than .300. Northwestern State is hitting .235 as a team.

UT Arlington enters the weekend 2-5, and while the team has five regulars hitting better than .300 on the season, they haven’t hit for much power (.412 slugging percentage) and don’t have much to show for it in the win-loss column. Nebraska will see right-hander Michael Wong, who has allowed just two earned runs in 10.0 innings of work, with opponents hitting just .171 off him.
