How has he played this year? It seemed that our staff wasn't that impressed with him or at least not enough to make him a priority. Has his stocked increased?
No idea. He became dead to me when he went against the family.

Would be a good pickup for us if for no other reason than to get in with Muhammad at Central who has a ton of kids that will get D1 offers. Not sure if that means any will be good but when other schools are there, it's good to be in front of things. I do think AM wants Nebraska to get his guys, but for whatever reason it hasn't really happened of late.

Staff is doing an unbelievable job in-state if you ask me.

Tater Island rates him as a QB. Maybe he should be a DB?

He lists himself as an Athlete, which is what both 247 & Rivals call him as well. But it is understandable - he was the QB until this fall; he never played defense until this season

The Florida Gaytors on Thursday offered Gregory Smith, an emerging 3-star safety prospect from Sumner (Fla.) High. After talking to multiple sources, here’s what we can tell you about his recruitment. …
-Smith plans to spend much of this weekend in Gainesville with his family. If that goes well, he expects to set an official visit with the Gaytors. Florida just started talking to Smith and his father about a week ago and things progressed quickly. He spoke at length to the Gaytors on Thursday afternoon, but it still was a “shock” when the offer came that evening.
-Smith has the type of body and athleticism you’re looking for in a safety. He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, and has long arms. And In addition to posting 40-yard dash times in the 4.57-second range, he finished seventh in the triple jump at state last year and 10th in the long jump.
-Smith is a classic late riser. But the question is, why? Why is he now just getting attention as a safety prospect? That’s an easy one to answer. Until this year, he primarily was a quarterback. In fact, he just started playing defense in 2023, he said.

Gregory Smith is a multi-sport and multi-position standout

-As a quarterback in 2023, Smith has passed for 626 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 187 yards and four scores on the ground. On defense, Smith has recorded 18 tackles, 1 interception, 3 pass breakups, 1 caused fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
-The Gaytors have told Smith they like that he also plays QB because he understands how offenses work and can bring that knowledge to the secondary. Historically, many of the Gaytors’ best defensive backs were high school quarterbacks.
-Smith has a 4.1 GPA and has a chance to graduate in December. Getting information on Florida’s academics this weekend will be important. He’s considering a career in sports management. Smith is adamant about trying to find the right fit on and off the field.
-Another key this weekend: Getting to know Gaytors secondary coach Corey Raymond. According to Smith, his father chatted some with Raymond this week and liked what he heard. As for Smith, most of his conversations have been with Florida quality control assistant CJ Wilford.
-Given his academics, it’s not a surprise schools such as Vanderbilt and Tulane are involved. The Green Wave were in town Friday to check on him.
-The vibe I got from chatting with Smith is that the Florida offer was extremely significant to him. He’s a Florida native and the idea of staying home is appealing. The Gaytors offer is likely to lead to interest from more schools, so Smith potentially will take his time. That said, if Florida impresses him this weekend it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Gaytors take control of his recruitment.

Maybe our staff is just waiting to evaluate them until after they transfer to Westside or Bellevue West?

I kid, I kid...
