NU's schedule: Looking ahead

And the Wisconsin-Cockeye games are not gimmes either at this point.

This is probably a 7-5 team that could play its way to 6-6. That is a shame. Tony White needs to figure out a big change bc every team now has an easy blueprint on how to carve up our defense. It's the conference's 2nd year vs him - they're not surprised like they were last year. We'll go as far as Tony White takes us this yr.

There's truth in this post. I told my wife this morning that the older I get, the more I trust my eyes instead of making excuses.

My eyes
1. Dylan is badass and the best player on the roster.
2. The defensive line was mostly manhandled against Illinois and should've been noticed more against Northern Cockeye. Actually had the thought after the UNI game that everything is now on tape - in a bad way.
3. Nash and Ty are solid, not great.
4. Kicking game coaching is suspect and our specialists need to improve.
5. White is slowly becoming overrated and needs to adjust.
6. Rhule struggles to adjust in 2nd halves - this is concerning. BUT, he seems to be one to adapt so hopefully he sees the same and has the ability to fix.
7. Satterfield is actually exceeding expectations from what I thought he'd be. However, look who he has at QB.
8. We were mentally weak when it counted most last night.
9. We have better depth than what people are saying. I think we'll see that show itself as the season progresses.

Is Nebraska not allowed to improve as the season progresses? What we saw last night doesn’t have to define the rest of the year. I truly believe this NU team has the potential to grow and get better as the season unfolds.

I actually have more confidence in Illinois vs their schedule compared to Nebraska vs their schedule.

Illinois I could see going 9-3. I think they're better than most of those teams. Illinois knows who they are. And they have the best QB Bert or Lovie has ever had.





Nebraska OTOH needs to figure out who it is. Are we a running team? Are we a trenches team? Does our DC need to make schematic adjustments vs a conference that has figured him out?

2. Man handled might be a bit of an overstatement, but they weren't disruptive. Agree that many of the UNI issues showed, way to many yards after contact, can't give up a 5 yard gain when you make contact at 1 yard past the LOS.
3. agreed, they were overhyped and Colorado's crappy scheme and OL exacerbated it.
4. Not selling out on the ST coach yet, Alvano's injury throws a wrench into things. FG kicking is definitely a concern that need improvement

6. I think "second half adjustments" are kinda made up. Adjustments are made throughout the game. We do seem slow to adjust though especially on defense.

8. yeah, OT sure showed that, but the team did step up in the 4th quarter with a potential game winning drive and a defensive stop

We should be putting the ball in Dylan’s hands and attacking through the air most of the game and playing aggressive attacking defense all game to get sacks and create turnovers

Some of it I think is simply year 4 of a HC versus year 2. First couple years a HC is playing with inherited players, takes a few years to develop the line play that a HC wants. Bielema is a good coach, never understood why some Nebraska fans hate him and think he isn't good.

I love where the offense is headed. Once the linemen get developed it's going to be very hard to stop. Satt has been doing very good bringing the offense around, obviously Raiola has helped a bunch.

Defense has obviously been disappointing. Seem less aggressive and more predictable, not a good trend. I can live with some risk of big plays, but attack, go for turnovers and 3 and outs. These long drives are killing us. Hate all the soft coverage and mix it up, we aren't using the chaos element of the 3-3-5 to our advantage, just way to predictable.

I always talk Illinois up after their string early season showings vs us....and then Illini always shits the bed vs a bad Purdoodoo or Maryland team at home & makes me look bad.

I think this team that Bielema has now is legitimately good. I'm sure they'll have one game where they don't show up emotionally and everyone will say "why couldn't NU get THAT Illinois team". But regardless they are a better team than us. But they might be top 6 in the B1G. They legitimately could go 9-3. Which is a not a shameful OT loss.

I really need someone to break down on film what we were doing on D. Was if soft zone? Why was there always an open man running across the middle?

We didn't blitz bc we saw they were throwing on 3 step drops so we couldn't get there. But you should have an extra man in coverage then right? Yet there was always 1 receiver running wide open.

It didn't add up. It's seemed like a schematic issue. Not absolving the players of course.

I'm not fond of Bielema because he comes across as arrogant, and happens to be an Cockeye grad. But I acknowledge he's a very good coach. Lots of good coaches out there that are pretty likable.

I believe that inheriting players and being in year 2 is different in the "current" B1G than it was in the AAC and Big 12 - as it pertains to Rhule. I'm sure many will say that now the narrative is shifting because he lost a game in year two, at home, at night. But it's true that line play and development of your program takes more than one year and 4 games total. In conferences besides the B1G and SEC, I think one could argue a turnaround would be quicker due to the development necessary in the O and D lines.

The CFB landscape has, and is evolving very quickly.

We obviously have things to correct but I am going to give Illinois credit. Say what you want about Bert but his O lines are always good and physical. His defense is always physical and his whole team is very disciplined. Now that said we still laid a complete egg in OT and there is no excuse for that.
