Feels like a HS+portal year at RB.
Probably.

Anthony is gonzo.

Gabe has never made it through 4-5 games in any season.

Rahmir has said he is returning but has never broken through.

Emmett is looking good but will need help.

Ives is behind Fleeks. I don't know if that is ability or if it's an effort to preserve his redshirt. (Even though they don't seem overly concerned with like a dozen other true freshmen playing)

So I assume we are going to be shopping in the portal and looking for help from HS.

You can’t count on it, but dudes can come on really late in their career. See Ozigbo. Furthermore, if there’s an ounce of talent in that room Rhule and co. will squeeze it out of them.

Lacy would’ve absolutely seen time next year, and it sucks to lose him, but the room isn’t devoid of talent. Assuming they replace Lacy with a high school kid I think they could afford to be really picky in the portal.

hmmmm that brix kid can shovel snow ,
I don’t want that wishty washie bullshit affecting the locker room . “Ohhh i love manhattan oh the little apple waaaahhh” “ohhhh fvck its always normal in norman waaahhhhh” “ohhh shit all they do in Lincoln is break into vape stores i better commit bc papa wants me there waaaahhh”

since Bama is hosting Lacy 11/11, there is an interesting daisy chain as the RB Hill looks more likely to go to SC now

South Carolina making moves with productive in-state tailback. Will he wait for offer? BY PHIL KORNBLUT SPECIAL TO THE STATE OCTOBER 25, 2023

It’s no secret in the recruiting world that South Carolina running backs coach Montario Hardesty covets Daniel Hill of Meridian, Mississippi for the 2024 recruiting class. Hardesty has recruited Hill as much as anyone and has the Gamecocks in the final three along with Tennessee and Alabama. It’s certainly not a lock that Hardesty will land Hill — thus, he has to keep his recruiting options open.

One possibility for an offer from him is Traevon Dunbar (5-9, 175) of Midland Valley High School in Graniteville. The Shrine Bowl selection got a call from Hardesty on Tuesday night. “He was basically just chopping it up and talking about how I look pretty good coming back from my injury from last season to this season,” Dunbar said. “He said I’m looking like I’m back to normal and actually looking better than what I did before the injury.”

Dunbar suffered a knee injury midway through his junior season and was limited to 587 yards and six touchdowns. The previous season for Silver Bluff High, he rushed for 1,909 yards and 28 touchdowns. And fully healthy this season, Dunbar is once again piling up the yards with 1,876 yards and 24 touchdowns. He is averaging nearly 12 yards per carry. Dunbar was happy to be contacted by Hardesty, and he appreciated the coach’s honesty in laying out the situation to him. “He was telling me there’s another kid ahead of me, I think he’s from Mississippi,” Dunbar said. “I think they’re waiting to see if he commits or not. I don’t know. I guess they are just waiting on the Mississippi kid to see what he does, and I guess they’ll start talking to me. South Carolina has always been a dream school but there’s only so much time you can wait on somebody. I really can’t answer that because I don’t even know until I’m in the moment.”

Hill was projected this summer as a lean to South Carolina, but that favorite spot could belong now to Alabama. 247Sports has projected a commitment decision sooner than later from Hill. If the Gamecocks do offer Dunbar, they’ll have to catch Virginia Tech. The Hokies have offered and stand as Dunbar’s current favorite. He visited there for the Wake Forest game two weekends ago. “I’ve really meshed with everybody on their coaching staff,” Dunbar said. “I like (RB) coach (Elijah) Brooks. I got a chance to actually talk to him. I know he was at Maryland when I was offered by them, and then he transferred to Virginia Tech. I already knew some of the people on the coaching staff. I got the chance to talk to (head) coach (Brent) Pry again. He talked about how I’ve come a long way from my injuries, and he’s proud of me and how I came off the injury.”

Along with the Hokies, Dunbar said Appalachian State is strong with him. He also holds reported offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, Louisville, Maryland, Old Dominion, Tennessee Tech, Georgia State, Liberty, Michigan State, Penn State and Eastern Kentucky. Though he has a favorite in the Hokies, Dunbar said he won’t rush a decision because he wants to see who else might come forward with an offer once they see his updated film. “Waiting to see how other things play out because there are other schools that might jump in, but I’m not really sure yet,” Dunbar said. “I think they might just wait until I put out my senior tape, which is starting to look good. We’ve got one last regular season game against our rival team, and I feel like that game is definitely going to be one of my best games along with South Aiken. “I feel like I’ll just wait until the North Augusta game to drop my regular season highlights, and then I’m pretty sure some other schools might jump.”

I think Ives was always going to be a slow starter. I think he played in small class NJ football and while a really gifted athlete, young RBs are usually a horror show in pass pro. Honestly the most impressive play I've seen from Emmet to date was one of his blitz picks ups last weekend

Has Barthel sent any new RB offers out yet? All the conjecture is useless until we see who they're really interested in.

did you see the stuff above on Traevon Dunbar?

Odds are good they won't offer most anyone without a UV first and if they like them they'll get invited on an OV and get offer.

Also, I'm all for taking Ruggeroli's commitment regardless of what Brix does. We don't have time for this kid to be playing mind games, he would be a 3 star with regional P5 offers in any other class but this year's OT class sucks.
i agree Gary, id rather offer a couple neck rolls from 8 man football than that wishes washey pig farmer

Watch Traevon Dunbar on the football field, and he will show you what it looks like for a running back to play hungry.
Few players in the state of South Carolina, much less the CSRA area, have dominated the first three games of the high school football season like the senior tailback from Midland Valley High.
Considered a 3-star prospect, according to 247sports.com, the 5-foot-10, 200-pounder has been playing like that and more. In his first trio of games, Dunbar has amassed 728 rushing yards on 73 carries. That’s a first down per touch and about 242 yards per game.
And he hasn’t done it against shabby competition, either. Valley’s first three wins have come against Grovetown, a Class AAAAAA school on the Georgia side of the CSRA, Thurmond and Silver Bluff. The latter two were unbeaten coming into their matchups with the Mustangs.
“Running like a man possessed” could be a cliche used to define his early-season tear. But whatever descriptors you use, make sure it reflects the passion instilled into a player who understands what it feels like to flirt with the possibility of being forced to give up the game he loves.

Dunbar developed that passion the hard way when he tore his ACL as a sophomore. The uphill climb to get back to elite form came from Dunbar’s desire to prove to himself that he could still play at a high level once again. It also made him appreciate the game of football more.
“The biggest thing for Traevon is, coming off that injury, a lot of kids don’t know what it means to play every play as your last,” said Midland Valley coach Earl Chaptman. “And when you’re a guy who, as a sophomore, loses a whole season because of that injury, it kind of wakes you up a little bit and lets you know that you’ve gotta play every possession and every snap as if it’s your last. And he’s prepared himself for this.”
The injury happened after the 2021 season where, before injury, he rushed for 1,909 yards and 28 touchdowns while playing for Silver Bluff. He didn’t make his return to the field until suiting up for Midland Valley’s 38-19 win over Airport on Oct. 7, 2022 — a game where he rushed for 58 yards on nine carries.
In his next game back from injury, he flashed his sophomore season form with 171-yard performance in Valley’s 70-33 win over Aiken — a game that several of his teammates point to as a turning point in the Mustangs’ program.
As a junior at Valley, he shook off the injury rust to the tune of 587 yards and six touchdowns on just 56 carries in only five games while sharing the backfield with talented runners, TJ McElmurray and Jonathan Peeples.

But his crazy three-game stat line this season has not only helped him re-establish himself as one of the state’s best players, but it’s also been a big reason why Midland Valley has gotten off to its first 3-0 start to a season since 1998.
Dunbar, himself, acknowledges that the sophomore season injury taught him how to appreciate and prioritize his gift of football more.
“I don’t think [the injury] negatively affected me,” Dunbar said. “I just think it showed me that anything can be taken from you in a quick instant. So it really did make me love the game more and make me want to get more out of it.”
Dunbar’s exploits on the field have certainly drawn the attention of some of college football’s most recognizable brands. He’s got at least a dozen offers or interest from Division I schools, including offers from the likes of Penn State, Michigan State, Arkansas, Boston College and Virginia Tech.
And after back-to-back 200-yard plus rushing performances was followed up by 182 yards and a score against his old team last Friday, more accolades, recruiting eyes and scholarship offers are sure to come his way before his senior season is done.
Talent plus seemingly doesn't take things for granted-that's a welcome combo.
