Notre Dame and ACC getting rocky

They have a new rule going into place next year if they are in the top 12 they get an autobid like a conference champ. If it was in place this year they would have jumped Miami for the spot.
Would they have taken Miami’s spot or JMU’s spot.
If JMU’s then all good

ESPN owns the playoffs…ESPN has partnerships with SEC and ACC…rival NBC owns ND.

They pay less money out to Miami (ACC) if they are in over ND.

Money talks and the Catholics walk.

SIAP, but on the subject of Notre Dame being childish bitches...

Can anyone explain why anyone outside of South Bend would agree to this?

So any other team in the country can be bumped out of the playoff field to make room for a lower ranked conference champioin or the G5 team, EXCEPT Notre Dame?!?

So if Notre Dame is ranked 12th, but the G5 qualifier is ranked 17th, Notre Dame will stay in the playoff field but the No. 11 teams get ejected?!?

This is infuriating. How is this fair? Why would anyone agree to such preferential treatment for Notre Dame?

The SEC signs off on this because they know if Notre Dame loses an avenue to the playoff as an independent then they will be Big Ten bound which they obviously do not want.

I don't know about that. The Big Ten has lusted over ND so long that I think they will go to any other conference just to spite the Big Ten. There is already rumors that they are talking to the Big 12 if they break up with the ACC.

Probably the same dumb non-football deal.

Turns out that if you've decided you don't need to be in a conference, then you've also decided that you don't need the support of a conference.

I think those are all just to create chatter and try to get some negotiating leverage with the big ten. Notre Dame alumni and fans are arrogant at worst and proud at best, they want to remain independent. If the system forces them to join a conference they would accept rubbing shoulders with Big Ten universities. There’s not a chance in hell Notre Dame boosters/alumni would accept rubbing shoulders with the likes of Mississippi St or Oklahoma St.

Optics and fit aside; part of Notre Dames reasoning for wanting to keep their independence is it allows them to schedule games across the nation. Part of the reason for the USC/Stanford series. They’ll always play 1 game in California etc. The Big Ten is the only conference that gets them close to that scheduling model.
