My personal favorite bourbon I’ve ever had is Rock Hill Farms. 2nd is probably Blantons Gold. What’s better?
RHF was my jam back when it was a $30 bottle. After it went up to $45 I stopping buying them. Think I still have two bottles on there somewhere. One was so old the cork rotted so had to pour it into a decanter.
I always felt blantons was over hyped. Even when it was a $45 bottle.
Elmer T Lee is another one in that group. Have a couple bottles left over from the good ole days when they were easily accessible.
There are a lot of good stuff. RHF is a single barrel and Blantons is a small batch. This tends to mean the consistency from bottle to bottle will be tough to maintain. Especially when Buffalo Trace is marketing every fart in the wind as a special bottle with limited edition pricing. Not enough juice to blend and keep the consistency.
For lower priced and easily found bottles:
- Jim Beam Double Oak
- Four Roses Small Batch Select
- Wild Turkey Rare Breed
- Old Grand Dad 114
Ones you’ll have to search for a little bit aren’t crazy mark ups yet:
- New Riff barrel strength
- Smoke Wagon Uncut
- Barrell Seagrass
- For Roses Single Barrel OBSQ
- Joseph A. Magnus Murray Hill
* Note, nothing from Buffalo Trace. They make good whiskey but cult that has grown up around their bottles isn’t justified.
