Football NIL Discussion

It's not my information or data. Can't share everything without permission, or eventually you won't get anything to share.

He did crack it, just didn't maintain it. And if we beat Minnesota, this shit isn't even talked about. NIL didn't lose us that game. 5 games left to find out where we end up.

I wish NIL was in total control of Athletic Departments and they were required to publish the information. (I agree with your statement!)

I’m not asking you to share anything, especially something that was shared with you in confidence.

I just questioning why they (top NIL boosters) wouldn’t want those numbers public? If I’m holding up my end of the bargain (top 15 NIL) I want that to be known and not speculated about. Especially when my coach who can’t crack the top 25 is asking for more money.

I’m not quite following the 501(c)(3) stuff. At a certain point, the IRS stopped issuing tax exempt status to NIL collectives altogether. I also don’t think most/all NIL contributions are tax deductible at this point, even if the collective is a 501(c)(3). I also don’t believe 1890 is operating under the non-profit structure anymore based on the IRS filings I can see.

The Big Red Collaborative was created to go the 501(c)(3) route. They never got the status approved by the IRS, and closed shop.

I never said 1890 is, or was, operating under a non-profit. They are very clear any donations to "The 1890 Initiative" are not tax deductible.

1890 does have a non-profit 501(c)(3) division called "The 1890 Foundation". It's used to support charitable organizations within the states boundary. They actively filed with Nebraska earlier this year. Whether that was just to keep it alive, IDK.

Yeah the 1890 foundation haven’t filed a tax return with IRS since 2022 so it’s going to get revoked if they miss this year. I’m guessing that never took off since the ability to actually make tax deductible donations is extremely limited.

I think one logical thing to do would be a special tax on Omaha to NIL for all the busts we’ve taken over the years.

A national award, 2 Heisman winners & 4 retired jerseys off-set it.

It has sucked of late though.

Sure would've been nice to land at least 3 that got away; Phillips, Fant & Watts.

Can confirm this is exactly correct. 1890 website clearly differentiates between NIL( Initiative) and charity (foundation).

I believe once Rhule starts winning more (hopefully) the regular Joe will start donating. Let’s say there are 2M Husker fans - if each give $5 a month then our NIL explodes to $120M! This would be more of the republican approach to fund raising - a lot of people giving what they can vs democrat which heavily relies on the very wealthy giving a lot.
