Football NIL Discussion

If I was worth billions would I give college football players millions per year? I would probably buy houses for them to live in. I'm not sure I'd just pay them 6 figures on top of everything they're getting if I'm being honest.

I also don't complain about other people not giving enough. I just don't think we have a wealthy enough fanbase/corporate connection to be really competitive. We have enough to be top 25. Not top 10.

I can’t imagine giving several million a year. Every single year to a college for a bunch of kids with the amount of money from ads and tv contracts coming into the schools.

They need to a complete overhaul of the system.
As long as the popularity of the sport continues to be off the charts nothing will change. A person can argue actors get paid way too much and they'd be right but we love to be entertained.

Agree. This is all in the courts so no way to reel it back in. The NCAA needs contracts and a commish like the NFL to try to level everything out otherwise there will continue to be top spenders who will consistently compete for championships while most others will not.

NIL is fine, Its not Texas, A&M, or OSU, but its probably right there with OU, Michigan etc.

My take, Nebraska actually had a very successful transfer class, we just whiffed on offensive tackle. ON DL, Rhule was too confident in DL development with the young guys. Most of those guys seem like they are year away. Should have made DL a priority.

Nwaneri was portal. Wouldn't say whiffed. Needed more though.

Ok, let me phrase what I've been saying a different way and by asking a question...

So do you think we have the same amount of NIL as Michigan, who won a national title in the NIL era, but our head coach is at the podium telling us we need to give more with the below quote after going 5-7 and 6-6?

"In a world of $30 million and $40 million rosters, which isn't going away, I'd like us to do the same thing. There's sort of like a, 'Hey, that's not really the Nebraska way.' I'd like it to be. I'd like to invest. I'd like to be at the front of everything." - Matt Rhule

There's absolutely no way that we have as much NIL as Michigan. Anyone thinking that we do isn't looking at their ability to bring in transfers and extremely high profile recruits.

Not what this thread is about, but I am not an AI hater but I truly believe this is accurate.

There's two OBVIOUS parallels that I think we can all agree on.

1) Autocorrect has made us worse spellers. I know for me that's an absolute fact.
2) Google Maps and navigation help has made us less able to remember how to get places

I'm not saying either of those are bad, they're not. Just that it's crazy how the brain re-wires itself because it learns it doesn't have to store that information.

You don't give millions a year as a billionaire, you set funds aside and give then the interest annually. Make the money work for you. That's what id do. So again Warren is a Lil bitch.
Same thing brother. I could be investing it in my business or insider trade on the stock market with one of my buddies businesses thats about to have a big announcement.

Yeah, endowment funds are what you're looking for. Put $50M in the bank, the interest all goes to the school (though I'd keep some to let the amount grow every year).

$50M at 7% is $3.5M, donate $3M add the other $.5M for growth. Rinse repeat.

I could tell you everyone's phone number as a kid. I barely know my wife's number. Couldn't tell you my kids with certainty.

You linked to an article that just links to the same made up numbers. Do you have any critical thinking skills AT ALL?
So 247 is made up fake news? Listen im not taking the time to prove anything. I simply threw out some info for discussion purposes. and once again you psychos got bent.

I really don't give a shit and have very little knowledge about it. That's why I did a quick search.

IF you have other data from your sources please share.

If Michigan State has a $13M roster than what in the hell are they doing wrong? They don’t even have $13M worth of talent on their roster, another bullshit list.
Ok. So what list should we use? I just did a quick check to see what I could find for discussion purposes and once again you some of you guys lose your marbles. Is everything in life a dramatic reaction for some of you? geeez

So give them 50 mil up front instead of 3.5 mil per year?

I think we are in the same range, yeah. It not the gulf between Nebraska and Ohio ST. Michigan was getting beat out for OL in the portal right and left last year. I dont think they have bad NIL, just like I dont think Nebraska has bad NIL. I think Nebraska is a solid Tier 2 NIL program. Probably in a range of like 12th to 20th.

I think Rhule should be pushing for more NIL to get Nebraska to a Top 10 level, I just think its easy to blame everything on NIL when stuff goes wrong, when there is more to it than that.

Nebraska isn't going to be a Top 5 high school recruiting power. They can certainly get better, but thats not going to be in the cards. If A&M wants to go pay high school recruits a shitload of money it does not matter. Nebraska was never in the running for those players pre-NIL or post-NIL. Does not matter at all.

With NIL, Nebraska can focus more on a few of those corner stone pieces though and maybe thats enough to sway those few players away. I think Nebraska will be a more portal heavy program then the average team.
