This team folded the last few games. Only two players showed up today. Anytime Sam is one of your top scorers, you know things are bad. Nothing against Sam, he plays hard.

And all due respect to Sam - he should be playing at Omaha or something. The fact that he is getting serious minutes at NU is insane

It is what it is. He's small, but tough and plays his ass off. Just isn't the level of player that should be getting big minutes on a B1G club.

Our roster is just bad overall. Morgan looked good first half of the season - at least he could score. Last half of the season he's been terrible. Meah is just a big oaf. Can't score, takes up space in the paint, not good for much else. Worster also can't score. He's decent defensively, but yet another player that teams don't have to guard. Essegian is weak, can't create his own shot, and is a liabiity defensively. If he's not hitting 3 three's a game, he's a net negative. Uhlis is just not good. Berke has no footwork, can't shoot or dribble, just below average overall.

Goggles probably should have gotten more run just to possibly give us another guy who could possibly score. But he is also weak and likely a defensive liability.

We just don't have a good roster. First half of the season we got a lot of wins against bad teams. We did have some good wins against better competition, but our first half of the season record was a mirage.

Replacing Williams & Gary is a tall task by itself. Then add 2 PG's, a PF/C and pray Mast comes back.

This is assuming Essegian returns, as well as Griffiths and the redshirts.

Yep. I've been saying that for weeks (probably months), now. Brice is one of the best players to ever play at NU - good luck replacing him. It will take multiple good players to possibly replace what he meant to this club. Take Brice off this club and we are bad, bad. Juwan is also a big loss.

Just replacing what those two brought is a very tall order, and extremely unlikely to happen. Getting Mast back will help, but Mast alone is not enough.

We have barely any recruits. We are going to have to almost completely restock the roster via the Portal. And we played like ass the last half of the season - good luck getting any near-top portal players to want to come into this mess.

And your point about Essegian, Griffiths and the redshirts - we could lose a bunch of them, too. And we need those guys to take a step up and be starters next season.

I don't think replacing Brice's production is really all that difficult if we replace our minus value players with neutral/positives. Need to hit big in portal though.

I agree that we need to have fewer (ideally zero) minus players. But it is still always tough to replace a 21 ppg scorer and one of the best husker Bball players we've had.

But the plan has to be to get more neutral or slightly above neutral players, and hope we can get a difference makers in the portal, plus one of the redshirts becomes a plus-player, and Essegian and Goggles can improve and take a step up.

IDK - it all seems unlikely to work out TBH. It is not looking good for Fred and Co IMO.

YES THIS SUCKS ! I’m not minimizing that fact.

However, I’m not sure putting a team together that can play for a spot in the dance is as daunting as people are saying here. We did it last year.

You’ve got to keep the guys you want on this roster here and then hit the portal the way you did for 23/24.

Griffiths - What makes me say yes is he’s got some offensive skill that I think we could develop much like we did with Wilcher. What makes me say no is when he got minutes against NW and a few other big ten games he didn’t have a clue what we were doing defensively and it was clear why he couldn’t find the floor. That’s inexcusable for a guy who’s been here since the summer. What is he even doing at practice.

So in the above scenario you’re bringing back 4 guys who contributed this year and projecting improvement from each which isn’t an outlandish thing to do.

What’s needed - You have to be right on the freshmen and you need probably 7 new guys. Thats not too much different than it was last year or in 23/24.

What the difference needs to be is you can’t swing and miss on guys like Griffiths where you get literally nothing out of him.

Gonna miss Gary. The emotion from that dude and the crowd today after he fouled out was off the charts. He played his ass off for his last game in PBA.
